But in all fairness, my country probably doesn't care and if we have to learn french, it wont be canadian. |

The words "sexual health" appear in the url for that link, which led me to wonder what exactly the article meant by the word "French"!
As for the content, this isn't exactly breaking news. "The supremacy of French in Quebec" has pretty much been the PQ's mantra since they were founded in 1968, and they've pursued that goal any time they've gotten into power(most memorably in 1976, with Bill 101). I gather that they're gonna re-work the phrasing of Bill 101 to make it even more official, but I question how much actual impact that will have on things.
As far as I know, even under the PQ, English Quebeckers have always been able to get things like education and hospital treatment in English. Maybe the PQ is thinking of eliminating that, but I doubt it. |

And not particularly good French! I remember the arguments I used to see at the lunch table in dorm between two friends, one a Quebecois speaker and the other from St. Pierre-Miquelon. The latter used to always make fun of the le hot dog French of the Quebecois, which Parisian speakers think is gutteral and corrupt.
Yes, this has been the goal of the PQ for some four decades now. Every decade there is a call to arms to demand more rights or we'll leave, and the Canadian government is always bluffed into paying more transfer payments. |

The "French supremacy" thing is misleading.
The reality is that if you're French, and you live in a major center, like Montreal, you had better speak English at close to a native speaker lever if you want to go anywhere and be something out than the guy who picks up the tissues off the floor at Club Super Sexe. |

In the words of Jacques Parizeau, pretty much the most "French supremacist" of the PQ bigwigs...

So no, contrary to popular myth, the PQ is not actually trying to abolish the speaking of English in Quebec. It's more that they want Quebec to be a recognizably French majority place.

this whole issue is expolited by xenophobic politicians. it is a non issue. |
