|
|
I want to give some Korean type presents to my family.
Last year I gave my parents one of those framed Korean masks which has 3 masks in a vertical fashion, my sister and my niece a Korean doll.
This year I'm kind of stumped.
Any ideas?
Budget is 150,000 Won
Live in Busan, maybe willing to head to Seoul.
I have a baggage weight problem so they can't be too heavy. |

Socks. Tons of Korean socks. You know, with the actors and singers and cute animals with Korean speech bubble on them. My sisters (age 20 and 23) love these. I bring back like twenty pairs for each of them. Each pair is only 1,000 won so you can buy a big variety of socks. |

Can you order these off the internet?? Only place ive seen with good ones was the mask festival. Woudnt mind ordering some but wont really be travelling much more before i go home.
Im going to pickup a set of nice chopsticks for a memento, the other idea is some teas or things like that. |

Not sure, but the top floor on Lotte Mart (in Busan at least but I guess they are all the same) has a gift section for Korean stuff, I found the masks there. It's something to hang on the wall, rather than a mask you can wear as they are fairly small, it cost about 30,000 Won from memory. |

do they not sell them on the street stall type things in Busan? they're plentiful in Seoul / Gyeongido and Daegu from when I've been.
If you buy more than 10 or something ask for a discount
only 1,000 each and really good quality too most of the time. |

Those name stamps that Koreans use as an "official stamp."
There's a few guys that make them in Itaewon and around Meyong-dong. Standard ones go for about 10,000. Super duper fancy pancy ones can get into the upper tens.
Just get their English named written in Korean and usually they can fit it on there. |

Easiest place for me to find gifts is at Insadong in Seoul. They have a ton of stuff. |

There's a souvenir shop beside the army base in Songtan that has tons of Korean souvenirs at about half the price of what you'd pay in Insa-dong. I've bought many Christmas gifts there. It's worth the 45-minute bus ride from Nambu Bus Terminal in Seoul. |

I second "chopsticks" and add "foldable screen artwork" commonly found in Insadong (Seoul). I also recommend the Gingseng Brandy found at the airport (25 USD); the bottle has a large ginseng root inside. Actually, the airport has a pretty good selection of items. Although, you may not be comfortable waiting until the last minute.
Keep the suggestions coming, because I'm also looking for new ideas this year! |

Personally I think those wooden chopstick and spoon sets are nice. The flat metal chopsticks and spoons are also a good idea because its not easy to find stuff like that in the States. |

Markets, or popular outdoor shopping arcades. Small little stands and small indoor shops almost always have them. The selection is always good too; even the small shops have twenty or so different pairs. I've seen them everywhere that I've gone in Korea. Even those stands outside the rest stops on the expressways. |
