My contract is not up for a while yet, but I was wondering if anyone knows if a person can fly home on their free ticket, from another country a couple of weeks after their contract is up...? I know every school is different, but I just want to hear from other people if its possible. Thanks...

One of the things I LOVE about the new contract for EPIK 2009-2010 is the flexibility regarding this issue. They've changed the terms from a flight ticket home (to the country) to a flat fee (1,300,000 won) that you can use however you want. If only all the other contracts follow suit!

Anyhow... if you have a small hagwon, it's probably negotiable (especialyl if it doesn't make a price difference for them), but they can always defer to the terms of your contract.

The girl I replaced at my PS was practically worshipped and the school really wanted to help her out on this one (she was traveling to India after her contract), but the DMOE turned down the request and made it impossible for the school to be refunded for a ticket not out of Korea.

She found some kind of way around it by making the ticket refundable or whatever and got some of the money... but it wasn't as much as she wanted and it was highly risky to the school because if the DMOE had found out what she did and the school knew about it, the school would have had to pay back the money.

So basically, unless your school is willing to risk a huge financial hit if the school board rejects your request, it's probably not gonna happen. But maybe your vice principal can convince the board to accept it.

It might be possible. I want to leave from London back to Baltimore (I'll be traveling across Asia and Europe by train). My co-teacher think it's possible and recommended that I fill out a Flight-Reimbursement form. I'm not letting my hopes get up though.

I have an EPIK contract, so I get 1.3 million travel reimbursement. I am leaving Korea to Malaysia and heading home from India. Shouldn't be a problem at all.
