hi there,
I just got my first proper paycheque...
I am supposed to me on 2.3 mill a month, but i only got 2 mill...
Apparanty i have to pay a combined total of 300,000w for pension, taxes and 50 per cent medical insurance..
the previous job i had, i paid nowhere near 300 bucks for these 3 things.
that was in 2007 however.... is this a similar amount to what other people are paying?
thanks

Something is way off. Someone else might know why they are doing what they are doing. However, if you are with GEPIK, they take 300,000 out your first month (for 3 months, security deposit). That would mean you were paid the full 2.0.

If that kind of arrangement doesn't apply with you, then ask for a payslip showing all deductions. In a way, it will be great if you had to pay 300, cause that means the school has to match you, Laughing

Unfortunately, it looks like that won't be the case. Find out where the money went to and see if they simply overlooked something.

yep, get a pay slip. i've never worked at a school that automatically gave them to me....they tend to not like doing it. just be polite and say you need monthly statements for tax purposes in your home country. keep reminding them until you get it.

let's see what the possible deductions/amount are for a public school:

taxes: 70,000
pension: 90,000
health insurance: 50,000
lunch: 40,000
teachers meeting/outting fee: 20,000

could be right!

What do you do... just sorta guess and round off? Rolling Eyes

OP,
You are being 'ripped off' and are likely contributing to the soju/room salon 'slush fund'.

My itemised (public) pay slip deductions total W178,050 (including W3,270 for a local, residents' tax) on 2.7/mo. goss.

You can go to the NPS, NHIC and the National Tax Service to figure out what you should be paying. Here... I'll start you on your journey -

the amount for the possible deductions are a guesstimate!

if you're paying taxes, it's probably 2-3%???? anywhere 40-80k???
health insurance is mandatory at somewhere between 45-55K???
if you're eating lunch, anywhere from 30-50k???
if these teachers outtings exist, you're probably down 20-30k???
if your school's taking out pension, 80-100k???

again, they're just guesstimate for possible deductions!

Guessing is never wise when the question pertains to: navigation or money (especially in K-land). Wink

Just out of curiosity how much do EPIK teachers get taxed if their salary is at 2.1million KRW per month? Is it the standard 2-3%?
