I for one will never purchase another copy of the Korea Times. I refuse to contribute one penny to that paper while it continues to print hate-filled nonsense about ESL teachers and foreigners in general. The Korea Herald is making strides to give air to our issues, and is gaining my respect. The Times, on the other hand, is a sensationalist, xenophobic rag. True, neither paper is exactly great (under-statement of the year) but if I'm catching the subway and looking for something to read, there's no question as to which one I pick up.

I will never purchase the Korea Times again until it cleans up its act and puts that Who clown on a short leash. Anyone else taking a quiet stand against that rag?

I don't boycott it, it's just so poorly written and such a rag that I'd never buy it anyway! I've seen high school papers that are much better done and more professinal.

I've boycotted both papers for a year now. Used to read them both everyday...but it gets to you after a while.

I hope they are, because if you're the only one, then it's not a boycott. There's no such thing as a one-person boycott.

I believe that newspapers get all their money from advertising. The money you pay for the paper just goes to the store/paper boy etc...

If you really want to hit a newspaper in the pocket book, you have to go directly to the advertisers and boycot them as long as they advertise.

What are your thoughts about the other English-language daily newspaper in Korea, The Korea Herald?

So far as the paper version, I join the boycott. I do not buy the KT anymore. I wish I could buy the Herald more often, but it is hard to find. And so I usually just don't read newspapers often on the KTX anymore. Pity.

So far as the online version, I am a little torn. On one hand, I am supporting the paper by clicking on their page. On the other, if we are to talk about the consequences of their articles for us as expat teachers on this forum we need to be current on what our "enemy" is doing. Would it do anything to disable cookies for the site?

I am not saying I lose sleep over this question, but I don't know the answer.

Why doesn't anyone read the Joongang Ilbo? I've always found that paper to be a bit more professional, not a lot of local, anti-foreigner baiting. Am I off on this, or what?

I like the Joongang and the IHT. It is just hard myself to find a paper copy in Daegu. And I hate to admit that because it is a decent newspaper we don't talk about it that much on Dave's.
