|
|
I'm in the Uijeongbu area but I'll travel anywhere for some good cold medicine.
Anybody seen good American style cold medicine anywhere lately?
The Korean cold medicine doesn't seem to help me at all.
I'm looking for something like Tylenol Cold or Nyquil or something similar.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. |

You've got to get it from a pharmacy here, and with a prescription, if memory serves. It will be in the form of a variety of pills.
As for just cough medicine, I've had good luck with some prescribed medicine that the doctor gives me. It's just called, "Cough Syrup" in Korean. If you say that in English, they'll understand. |

Diphenhydramine, Pseudoephedrine, Acetaminophen, and all those things (maybe not dextromethorphan, never tried) are available over the counter. Look at what's in your cold medicine and buy the ingredients in separate tablets. |

I tried the local doctor and got the prescription for the sacks of three pills per sack but they didn't do anything for me. |

Theraflu is available here now, I got it at the local pharmacy. Available in day or night strengths, only 5.000 a box - cheaper than at home! |

Itaewon. The Red Door shop has lots of NA cold stuff. A while back it was around 10,000 for a box of pills. She had cough syrup too. I haven't been there for about a year.
You said you're willing to travel. |

Somewhat related question - are sleeping pills legal in Korea. I would imagine they are, but you never know.
Do you need a prescription?
Would a Pharmacy have them?
What's the phonetic pronounciation?
I have a brutal 18 hr flight coming up for the Christmas break and I really don't want to be awake for it. |

OTC sleeping pills back home are antihistamines. They're OTC here too - as antihistamines. Prescription ones back home are prescription here. |

I went to the Red Door and they didn't have anything. The guy said he'd try to get some more soon.
So then I went to the foreigner's market at Nam Daemun and found a little shop that had Nyquil and DayQuil gel caps. So I bought 5 small boxes of that at 10,000 per box. That guy still had two boxes left.
But cruising through the rest of Nam Daemun's foreigner's market, I didn't find anyone else with cold medicine. So, the above poster is right, it's in short supply. |

At Yongsan Station there is a pharmacy near the KTX windows (facing a Buy the Way) that has Theraflu. Its the only pharmacy in the subway/KTX station area and its next to an escalator. |
