Perhaps someone already posted this up awhile back, but this is my first time reading it.
It's satirical, don't take it too seriously, but this Korean does prove that fan death is indeed a real "threat".

For you lazy heads out there, the general breakdown is that leaving a fan on in an enclosed room (no windows or doors open) turns the apartment into a super oven, raising your body temperature instead of lowering it. Basically, death by convection.

I have tinitus so I leave the fan on 24/7 at home for the humming sound. But I am not dead...let me make sure...yeop not dead. |

Fan death is just another one of those cultural myths, like saying you shouldn't eat an hour before going swimming.
Yes, there is scientific and anecdotal evidence of why eating before swimming is a bad idea. You can find it anywhere. Generally speaking, however, it honestly does not matter if you eat or not.
I think the same can be said for "Fan Death". Yes, there are conditions that could make fan death plausible. But there are conditions that can make swimming before eating = cramping = drowning plausible too.
And how many mothers still don't want their kids swimming right after they eat? I know at summer camps, no one could swim after lunch, or there was a period of time between eating and swimming. |
