I went into the consulate. I sat down with the consulate general. He went over the questions on the questionnaire, asked why I want to come to Korea, what I know about Korea, and whereabouts will I be working. That's it. I was in and out in about 15 minutes, and took off back home. Nothing of consequence. |

In my interview she opened my transcript and went over it with me, class by class. Seriously. "Why did you get an A- in Physics?" was one of the questions.
We had a ~30 minute interview. It was really something. |

My interviewer asked
"Where did you go to college?"
"UNC."
"Do you know Michael Jordan?"
"He graduated before I was born."
Next. |

I think a good question for those who have been to a consulate interview is to ask if they got their visa in their passport the same day, or did they leave their passport there and have to go back for it (next day?), or was it mailed to them. |

So, you had to make arrangements to stay overnight in the city, assuming you came from some distance?
Basically, that's what I'm getting at asking this. For newbie visa applicants, it's something they should know or at least consider when getting ready to go to their nearest consulate for their interview/visa--possibly hundreds of miles away. For someone with the spirit to travel thousands of miles for a job, the interview should be a technicality. It's the unexpected 'details' that can present snags in the process. |

I live just outside Detroit and have to drive to Chicago, roughly 4 hours, and planned on dragging some friends along and enjoying a night on the town. I was under the assumption that I wouldn't have the option to pick my passport up the next day and that it would be mailed to me. |

If that was an option, I was never given it. I left a priority envelope and postage at the front desk and they mailed it to me. |

I just got my second E2 visa from the consulate in LA.
- They received my application/passport by fedex at 10:30am
- I called to make sure they had it at 11am.
- The first time they called me back after 2 hours for a 2 minute interview with someone that barely spoke English.
- The second time the lady said everything looked good and she would mail it back. I asked about an interview and she simply said "no interview" so either it is because this is my second E2 visa or they no longer do interviews at the LA consulate.
- Both times they sent it back to me the same day.
Props to the Korean consulate in LA for possibly being the most efficient government agency on the planet! |
