I just got accepted into Korea University in their International Studies program for spring 2010 and was wondering if anyone else is going or has gone to Korea University and what they thought of it?

I applied to their doctoral program in linguistics for entry in spring 2010, but so far no news - by mid-Dec announcements will be made I was told. I've been to the campus a few times as a friend of mine works there and I like it very much. I am happy with the level of scholarship I've seen there and wouldn't mind pursuing an advanced degree with them.

Good luck.

I just got their standard email saying you've been accepted a couple days ago, but no word if I will be recieving any scholarships or not. Do you know when they are supposed to tell you if you've recieved a scholarship or not?

My son is going into his 4th semester in Korea's doctoral program in linguistics (practical applied linguistics). He loves it there.

On the website they state that scholarship announcements will be made by the end of December.

I applied for the practical applied linguistics stream myself. I'm glad to hear that your son loves it, since I'm strongly leaning towards staying in Korea rather than moving to Aus, where I've already been offered a position. Knowing that others love it assures me that I'm leaning in the right direction.

Does anyone know how generous Korea University is when it comes to giving out scholarships to international students?

If you meet the grade, pretty generous.

I heard most international students have a low GPA and that is one of the reasons they apply to universities in Korea. Is that true or not?

My friend is just graduating from her master's degree course at one of the SKY universities. She has a first class degree. I have no idea about other students.

If you make the grade, it's between 75% to 100% of your tuition for doctoral students. I don't know whether there are other opportunities, though I imagine there are.
