|
|
I'm in contact with a recruiter and they have a position for early January.
They want to fly me out to Korea very soon, but send me to Fukuoka for 2 days and back to Korea because there is apparently a method of getting a VISA faster this way. They are doing it because they don't want me to work illegally on a tourist VISA and want me to work by the early January starting date. They claim everything is paid for.
This was a bit overwhelming since they are offering me the position because someone backed out right before their plane ticket, and my main concern is, is this legal? Is anyone familiar with this process? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

This has been about the third or fourth post about this kind of thing recently. If you search online you'll find out that it is possible to do a visa run for your first time but it can take up to a month to verify your documents (I think it's only your degree certificate) by the KCUE in Korea. Once that's been done, you can do a visa run. I'd be careful, OP, you could end up working illegally if you were to come across and then they start the process then to verify your documents.
I think where I have put in bold is key. Have you found out why that person backed out? |

Supposedly they backed out for personal reasons.
I guess these VISA runs have you go to Fukuoka for two days, and they expedite the process. They said I wouldn't be working illegally, because I would be in paid training from Dec. ~ Jan. starting date, which they say is legal.
I just don't know if it's legit or not, and was wondering if anyone has done a VISA run to Japan and how the expenses came out. Company claims they are paying. |

The training from Dec-Jan seems like they are just using the word 'training' so that you can teach without a visa. I dont know of many hagwon jobs that have training for more than 5-7 days. (public schools training/orientation is longer). I would ask some questions about what they will expecting from you during this training period. Is it paid or unpaid? When you get a visa and go to immigration to get your ARC I think the contract will need to have started after the E2 was issued meaning that the training will not be paid work time. |

There are plenty of threads on this, stickied on the FAQ forum as well.
I have twice done work visa runs to Fukuoka, each time with over a dozen others doing it on the same day, apparently over 20 per day do so, it's that standard.
It's legit, it's legal and the employer pays in every case I've ever heard of, up front or on a reimbursement basis.
I like it and look forwad to doing it a third time very soon. There's a hard rock cafe, toys-r-us and mall all across the street from my embassy. |

Do you need to do any paperwork beforehand for a tourist visa? Is it an actual visa or do they just stamp your passport and tell you how long you can stay (I've heard 90 days)? I'm a US citizen, any details would be helpful~ |
