|
|
I teach at a small middle school and high school and my coteacher has asked if I know of any good board games to order to use in our classes. We already have Pictionary, Scrabble, Monopoly and Apples to Apples.... Wondering if anyone has any ideas of some other good games that have worked in their classes.
Thanks |

| I use scattergories a lot, and it works great, but I don't have the actual game I just make my own sheets. You can play it individually in small classes or in teams in larger ones. |

Save your board games for afterschool classes and camps. You'll lose pieces and things will get damaged. Although janga is good becouse it's easy to explain and easy to replace. You can play online Monopoly on
EFL Classroom 2.0. |

The Game of Life and Clue come to mind, though I've never used them in class (I will, though, if I have to do vacation classes).
Slightly off the topic, you can also play Battleship with words on graph paper, no game board required. |

"Guess Who."
Fantastic descriptive potential and flexibility, as well as the ability to print out famous Korean / International celebrities and insert their faces into the slots. |

I love board games for teaching! I have made many and really wouldn't know where to begin. Even a lot of the online ppt games can be made/printed and used as a board game.
However, the most recent game is a printable version of Clue. Here's the PPT but find all the printable cards / sheets on EFL Classroom 2.0 under RESOURCES - Games/PPT Games.
This is a cool game. First they decide where to seat the guests. Then they guess to see who did the murder and where, with what. Can be used with lower levels too... Hat tip to the teacher who shared this on EFL Classroom and then I adapted the basic idea....
Cheers,
DD

| Where exactly is the monopoly game? Whenever I go to that EFL Classroom site, it's a confusing mess of pages. I can never find what I am looking for after 30 minutes of searching. |

Have you used the SEARCH?
Everything is now tagged and searchable. Click the search in the right corner.
But really it isn't hard : RESOURCES - GAMES/PPT GAMES (and then you have two choices but make sure to note that there are 3 pages in this category) MONOPOLY or TRADITIONAL BOARD GAMES.
I think that is pretty simple. But the point is - if you need help, leave a message, write in the chat box or start a discussion.... Members can help each other out... In the name of a lazy Friday, Here it is directly!
But put Clue, Pictionary etc... in the search and you should get results. Or go more general. Games, Board Games.
I hope you didn't mean the game Fishead was describing, that's under PLAY in the Learning Arcade.
Cheers,
DD

| When I click the search tab, I get a plugin for quicktime to install and it fails. There are no search fields. |

lifeinkorea,
Please get someone to look at your computer. From a distance, that's about the best I can do. Obviously, there is something going on that isn't normal. Hope you fix it.
I test EFL Classroom with a large variety of tools for a large variety of browsers. Further, Ning responds with any problems because I pay a premium fee for their maintenance (they are a multi million dollar firm). So there is no poor quality html or coding.
I wish you the best and if you give me more info. offline, more than happy to help.
Sorry OP for derailing the thread. Let the games begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Same thing happens at home. Unless there are computers all around Korea possessed by the demons, the common denominator is the EFL CLASSROOM SITE, not the computers.
I have no problems with other sites when I use this computer or other computers.
Face it, the site is NO way user-friendly. |

Again Lifeinkorea,
Please reply offline if you want any help. I'm here.
Over 1,500 unique users a day use EFL Classroom 2.0. I haven't heard of this issue before. (only recent issue was the right column not opening and that has to do with a KB add on, Korea specific issue). But I suggest you test in different browsers.
You can burrow in and be negative. I'll respect your opinion and keep doing my best.
OP - a colleague has a nice game for very beginning EFL learners. I'll try to get a link for you but I think it is EFL toolbox something...google.. Ah found it.. His name is Nick. It's speak and play. http://www.esltoolbox.com/ProductsGames.shtml

No, I was trying to point out something that could be fixed. Try even googling it, it won't come up and you will get this thread surface to the top.
From my understanding, phpBB is an earlier technology than what Ning does.
What you call negative is your laziness on your part to improve what is there. You choose to defend at all costs the current "thing" while ignoring people's advice to fix issues.
I am sorry, but you are the one who is being negative and burrowing in this "it can't be the site" attitude, even though I have tried it on multiple computers and MULTIPLE browsers.
Stop making excuses on the user end and accept the fact maybe the site should be re-designed to better list pages. You don't need to be so defensive for a service you didn't even create. It's Ning's problem for the most part. |
