"Dear Teachers,

As you know, our school has a big money problem now. So, for us to saving extra moneys this winter, when you don't have students in your class, we will be turning off the heater in your room. When the bell rings for the students to change classes, your heater will be turned on again.

Please dress warmly!^^"

Just get a space heater and problem solved. Most of the Korean teachers use it when the admin decides to become Scrooge.

I've seen public school teachers with two of those plug-in heaters. I wonder which costs more: the central heating in gas, or the plug-in heaters in electricity?

The heat in my classroom works only some of the time, so I finally got a portable.
It's just a small one, but it works for me.

The students on the other hand... Neutral

My previous job wouldn't turn on the heat for the whole building until there was basically frost in the classroom, and this was a university campus. The admin office had lots of heat fans, and so did I.

This might make a fun thread about cheapest people you know. I have a friend in Canada who had two 3-watt bulbs in his refrigerator and took one out to save money. And another friend who I only visit in the early evening because when it gets dark he won't turn the lights on.

I have a friend who showers only when there's some brightness or light out.

Do you shake hands when you meet up?

On a side note, I just saw a documentary which reported the results of hygiene tests done on the London Underground: 1 in 4 had fecal matter on their hands.

Is your friend from London?

When my hubby throws out his old and crusty underwear my MIL takes it, sews it up and then uses it for herself.

When my MILs not watching the baby or working some ungodly hours like 9am to 10 pm, she's out there collecting boxes. Just to make a little extra.

No one can beat my MIL in cheapness, no one.

My grandfather does all his cooking with a wood stove with wood he has cut from the forest himself. He mostly cook potatoes he has farmed himself or he will eat oat meal. I don't think he has realised that he gets a monthly pension from the government...
