I have an F4 and I didn't have a problem. I think this is more of a problem from people working at the individual stores not having a clear understanding of policy and making assumptions, probably not a problem directly with KTF itself. Otherwise, why would it be possible for some F4 visa holders to get it and for others to not? At the store I went to they didn't even look at the expiration date on my visa before saying yes.
By the way, just so people know, F4 visas are now valid for 3 years, not 2.

Yes, I jailbroke it a week ago. I used blackra1n to do it. It works as any other jailbroken phone: installed the 3G unrestrictor to make Skype calls over 3G (works well), changed SMS sounds, etc.

However, late model (past 2009-Oct) 3Gs iPhones changed the way jailbreaking works. These phones (including all Korean iPhones) require a tethered jailbreak, which means that every time you reboot the phone you need to re-jailbreak the phone. If you aren't near a computer when you reboot then your phone is useless until you re-jailbreak.

For me, jailbreaking isn't worth it at the moment. I only wanted the 3G unrestrictor and the SMS sounds but I don't want to risk having my phone crash and be far from a computer. I'll jailbreak it once they fix the issue.

There is a known patch for this problem but the iPhone Dev Team is withholding it temporarily (so that Apple doesn't patch it prematurely). Until then, jailbreaking requires you to re-jailbreak on reboot.

Maybe we should start a blog that will help E-2 visa folks find someone who is willing to put the Iphone under their name. LOL. Laughing

Also, its worth mentioning that some people have been experiencing problems with their wifi after using the tethered jail-break (the one made by geohot). I myself haven't done it yet, but once an untethered jailbreak comes out i'll do it. I'd like to do things like delete individual calls from call history. It's weird the iphone doesn't come with that ability out of the box.

I have a friend that's going through the same hair pulling problem. He's a F4 and has been told by SHOW stores at COEX, Gangnam Station, Gangnam near Giordano store various different excuses as to why he can't get the iPhone. The COEX store told him the number doesn't work, and a call to KT told him that he hasn't "been in Korea long enough." He's been in Korea for 1.5 years already...WTF is going on? Mad

I jailbroke my Korean iPhone. The tethered jailbreak issue is true. If you shut your phone off, you will need to be hooked up to a computer (with blackra1n, the jailbreak program) to boot up.

When I first jailbroke my iPhone, wi-fi didn't work but it was a simple issue of going to Preferences and resetting network settings. Things work great now.

I think everyone has to evaluate for themselves whether they think it's worth it. I've been an iPod touch user for a while and things got old. Buying apps all the time adds up. Also, there's a program called Lockdown which is only available for jailbroken iPhones. With the iPhone, you either lock your phone or you don't. With Lockdown, you can password protect individual apps.

Thanks for the jailbreak info. I think I'll wait until an unteatherd version is released. I just got my iphone today, do you know how to get a 3d gps?

Same thing happened to me. The one in front of Burger King right? My F4 Visa number also doesn't work when I try to sign up for those Korean online games like Kart Rider. I thought I had a messed up number. Anyways, my original cell phone was under my friends name so they just transferred the same information to my iphone plan. The billing is sent to my place and the monthly charge comes out of my card so makes no real difference to me or my friend. They did say I could change it to my name after 3 months from the starting date...

Can someone quickly explain the main purpose of jailbreaking? Is it just so you can download apps you couldn't before and do some UI changes? Also, is there a feature on the iphone that tells you how much date your using? I really don't want to go over my 1gb limit.

Yes, basically so you can pirate apps and do UI changes. You get a few other extras like Lockdown (protect individual apps). The iPhone also tells you how much data you're using. Go to Settings -> General -> Usage and you can see how many minutes/data you use.

I'm an F-4 visa holder with an iPhone. I had problems initially. I pre-ordered mine on Show's site the day it was announced. Unfortunately, the online system doesn't accept foreigner ID #'s to register for service so my order got cancelled.

I went to a store and they stated I would have to pay for the phone since foreigners weren't eligible for 2 year contracts. I told them I was on an F-4. They called KT headquarters to see if my ID # was eligible. KT said yes. When they tried to sign me up at the store, the computer system wouldn't accept my ID #. Basically, they had to call KT to get it "whitelisted" and this took 2 days. They originally told me it usually takes a day but said the time varies.

So you just had to wait an extra 2 days to sign up under your F4 visa number? Everything is under your name and the billing is going straight to you? So basically, if you act like an adult and not a douche bag, you can get the iphone with your F4 visa... Instead of posting angry blogs about it online like other people LOL. Good to hear you got yours *ALMOST* hassle free.
