I have heard a rumour that if one is able to get the all-coveted iPhone on a 2-year contract, they can cancel thier contract if they leave the country by faxing their airline ticket and information to KTF (or the relevant provider).
To me, this sounds a bit sketchy, as surely it would be taken advantage of. Anyone else hear about this law? Is it true? What do you think would happen if you signed a 2-year contract and then fled after a year or so?
Disclaimer: I am not going to be doing this, but just curious about if it would work! |

I don't think this would work, at least for those of us who are under other people's names. Since my co-teacher's name wouldn't be on the plane ticket they'd presumably just expect her to continue on with the contract.
This might work for those with the phone in their name, though. In the US, I heard you can get out a contract by moving to an area with no coverage. This doesn't work in Canada, though. |

I'm sure you could cancel it, but that would also entail paying a fine. |

One thing I don't get is.
The longer contract you get for any phone, the cheaper the 'phone' itself is. Cancelling a contract is 70,000won
So why don't people just get it on a 2 year contract, cancel it and take it home to use with a new sim or what not? |

I don't know how it is with other phones. but with the iphone your paying off the phone in installments. I never canceled an iphone contract, but I'm guessing since your paying about 11,000 won a month to pay off the phone in addtion to your regular phone bill, i would assume they would ask you to pay whatever you owe off when you cancel. |

This is pretty much the exact reason why foreigners on E2 visas aren't getting iPhones, for those who are not keeping up. Credit cards? I know of a few guys who've left the country with unpaid visa bills. I'm waiting for KT to allow me to put a security deposit so I can finally get that m*f*ckin thing. |
