Hey everyone... long time to see
Back here in Canada, but I've been keeping in touch with one of my very good Korean friends and her family since I've been back. Her parents acted as if they were my surrogate Mom and Dad while I was in Seoul, and were very kind to me. They were there for me when I landed myself in the emergency room 2 hours outside of Seoul with torn cartilage in my knee, and also included me in their family Chuseok traditions. They are truly some of the kindest people you could ever hope to meet.
Anyhow, I'm looking to send them a package for Christmas/New Year. Her Mom and Dad in particular seemed very curious about all things Canadian, and ended up sending their son (friends younger brother) to Vancouver for 4 months to study after they met me. I'm hoping the package can act as both a thank you for their kindness and hospitality, and as a gift of things that might not be so easy for them to acquire in Korea.
I've picked up a nice bottle of ice wine from a local winery here at home, as I know it can be quite pricey to purchase there. Does anyone have any other suggestions? My first thought was lobster (I'm from Atlantic Canada) but I know that would be crazy expensive to ship!
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |

Wow, no ideas at all? I was hoping some of you who are still over there would have some ideas about things that are hard to get over there. I haven't been there in a year and a half, approaching two years, so I'm a bit out of the loop. No ideas at all?? |

Local jams and quality maple syrup. Maybe some smoked herring and sardines in tomato sauce. You`re from Atlantic Canada so raid the canned seafood section! Canada only chocolate bars like Caramilk or Coffee Crisp. |

I'd be very very careful about mailing a bottle of wine- especially at this time of year. Jongnoguru asked me to send him malt vinegar a couple of years ago, and I wrapped the bottle in a couple of layers of bubble wrap an wrapping paper then tucked it into the mail. He said he cried like a little kid when he opened it and found glass shards and vinegar scented paper. |

Oh I hope it doesn't break! It wasn't a cheap bottle of wine at all. Maybe I'll head to the Saturday Farmer's market where I got the bottle. The winery had a booth set up and they sold special packaging for shipping.
Canned seafood is a great idea! Thanks!
I'll see about the candies and chocolates as well. I wonder if they'd like salt water taffy?
Maple syrup! Can't believe I didn't think of that haha.
Keep 'em coming guys! These are great! |

... is going to be freakin' expensive!
I heard the cost of sending packages in Canada has skyrocketed in the last little while. I might be doing the same thing you're doing in the near future, so please keep us updated on the shipping method you're using and the cost. Thanksverymuch |
