My thread got closed due to a 'rude' title, but I'd like to keep it alive, because I find it interesting to put the shoe on the other foot so to speak, and get the perspective from the other side.

I've read many times in this board of observations made about Korea and Korean culture. For example, we might think that is so rude for ajummas to cut the line, or people that spit everywhere, or how preserving 'face' affects interactions and it makes you wonder 'why hasn't she called?'.

From western perspective it might seem that some of these behaviors are odd and go against how we are used to doing things, which may cause for us to 'pass judgement' on them through our own filters. Because we often cannot see outside of our own perceptual 'boxes' it takes someone else to point them out to you. I thought it'd be a fun exercise to list things that you might have heard Koreans (or even other cultures) think are odd or weird about Western culture.

For example, if it's common for Korean women to cover their mouth when they smile, what would a Korean woman think of those women who don't do it and flash their pearly whites? If giving out a number is fairly common and means nothing, what would Koreans think of someone tells 'sorry, no' straight up (I guess this is where western women would pull out the 'I have a bf' excuse - so I guess western women have their own little white lies too haha - tho I wonder if a Korean woman would find that odd) ?

Smoking on the street is rude.

Koreans will smoke in bars, in the bathroom, in the fire stair well but generally these days they try to avoid smoking in front in public view.

I think Koreans are masters at hiding them selves. They have a big list of rules about where and when things can be down...well it seems more pervasive in Korea, and we don't tend to fit in.

Talking on the subway while others are being quiet is rude. Koreans will yammer away in the dark at some special event...even your wedding, but on the subway they are as quiet as mice...usually. Most of us refuse to be so quiet on the tube.

This thread title shows the OP is trying to be a little more respectful. Frankly, we've heard this topic over and over, and posters are probably blue in the face over hearing the same thing. I, also, would think from the title of cowboy movies. The previous thread was locked because it was too much of a narrow-minded sounding thread title, and we asked users to be professional about things.

Anyway, folks, have a nice weekend. Keep it clean while venting.
We are not asking you to engage in standard deviation and and standard error measurement calculations. We just ask you to keep it clean.

I don't think veterans who work here find such a topic really that profound. I am sure it can seem curious to see how in small ways girls from another culture may differ. That's just normal for veterans who work in Korea. It doesn't resonate with them so much. They are as used to as yellow dust, so to speak.

Anyway, we appreciate that this thread is cleaner. However, my friend, it's "Westerners", not "Westerns". Westerns refers to cowboy type films.
