Hey guys, I'm moving to Busan in February and I don't have a laptop atm, just a clunky old desktop. I'm wondering if I should buy a laptop and bring it with me, or wait until I get there to buy a computer? And if I do buy one there, is there any reason to prefer a desktop or a laptop?

Some info about me:
-I don't need anything super high-capacity, but I do like to watch movies and play games, and I have a LOT of music (I keep most of it in an external hard drive, but it overflows some).
-I don't have a laptop at college, and I don't miss it. There are several computer labs on campus, and if I need to transfer documents I just e-mail them to myself. Considering the fact that I will probably have a computer at work and the prevalence of PC bangs, I would probably prefer a desktop over a laptop. Is there anything that I'm not considering?
-I want an English operating system & keyboard if possible. How hard is that to find?

Thank you for your help and advice!

Going by your requirements I'd recommend coming here and buying a mid-range gaming desktop for about 1,000,000 including 22'' monitor. Maybe 24'' if you get a good deal.

You need to pay an awful lot of money for a laptop that can game......as well as having enough HDD capacity to install modern games (often around 10GB each) and to store all your downloaded movies and TV shows.

2TB of desktop HDD is only 200,000.

English OS is a lot easier to install on a desktop than on a laptop.

All keyboards sold in Korea have English and Korean characters.

Even if you only stay in Korea for 1 year, you should be able to sell your computer stuff here on Dave's when you leave for about 50% of what you paid.

Thank you so much! Great advice. How hard is it to get English Windows in Korea? And where would you recommend I shop - is there a chain of electronics stores that I could get a reasonable deal at, or a department store, or online?

Thank you for your help. You've put my mind at ease a bit Very Happy

I see you're moving to Busan.....I know nothing about the electronics markets there.

Online? You'll need the help of a Korean co-worker no doubt. But there should be no problem ordering the spec you want from an online site.

Department stores are the last place you want to buy a computer.

Getting legit English OS is possible but difficult. IMO, best to just download and burn.

I've always used 'free' Windows without any problem. The version of Windows 7 Ultimate on the web by the BIE group passes Windows Genuine Validation and works beautifully.

Maybe, if you can't sort it out yourself, I could mail you a copy for a small fee.

I might do that, or bring a copy from the US. We'll see. Do you not have any problems with downloading updates with the torrented file?

I'll talk to my Korean coworkers when I get there for advice on stores or help online then Very Happy Thanks!
