I see some torrents have AC3 5.1 channel audio from a DVD-rip, but I only ever get 2 channels out of the audio. Am I doing something wrong?

What audio setup do you have? Sound card? Speakers? Cables?

Yes , more info needed.

make sure you have an AC3 codec installed too. Something like this http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-CD-Rippers-Encoders/AC3-Filter-a-RC.shtml
