I ran into an old friend who has a bit of a situation with his current gf. He still likes her and feels all comfy with her, but she is no longer doing it for him on the physical side of things. He thinks it's due to some sort of fear of commitment thing. Clearly he should go get laid and indulge in some much needed self-flagellation, tell her, endure the fecal storm and break up with her, and then get into a series of short lived emotionally unfulfilling relationships until at the age of fifty he finally realizes what really makes him happy is to pay someone half his age to tie him down and spank him for being a naughty boy. But I just don't know how to phrase it delicately. How should I put it so as not to hurt him?

Tell the guy to stop being such a feline. He should find that which makes him happy. On the physical side - he's a guy. The worst he ever had was wonderful. He needs to quit his bitching on that score.

Tell him exactly what you wrote there. When he is done laughing, tell him the truth: She is having an affair.

Move on, nothing to see here, next customer please. Crying or Very sad

Aww, .38, it's not as bad as all that. It's not that she's not putting out, he's just not feeling the same spark. Here's hoping the chick who broke your heart contracts herpes and dies lonely.

Yeah, I guess that I was maybe a little out of line with that conjecture.

If they've been together a really long time, then what they're experiencing is totally normal. Romance is a thing maintained through diligence and consistency. There really isn't much magical to the whole romance thing outside of the emotional sphere, it really is similar to athletics: Use it or lose it.

If they haven't been together longer than, say, 5 years, then it could simply be as you said: he is comfortable. The novelty and freshness of a new love has worn off. The honeymoon phase is over. If they love each other, but aren't *in love* with each other, then perhaps they ought to not drag it out. Ships sink slowly -- if you wait for the rats to bail then it's all ready too late, etc. Love without romance is extended friendship.

But I'm still bitter and distrust all women. Just sayin'.

Or comes back to you in tears and begs for you to take her back; baby...I'm still waiting. Crying or Very sad

My theory is that all men who are now dogs (myself included) have been emotionally damaged by the love of their life at some time before doghood and proceed to drown their sorrows in meaningless trysts and shallow affairs.

'Twas beauty, killed the beast.

Who's a dog? I just don't trust the progeny of Pandora.

In all seriousness, though, it is easy for men and women to become disillusioned with the opposing sex. Afterall, we place a much more emotional and physical interest into them. Therefore, the personalities of our significant others become monstrous, disproportionate to that of our friends or acquaintances, and so is their effect upon us. It is easy to have your heart broken and to project that upon all other members of that gender.

Reason aside, I think women are scum. Present company excluded, of course. Maybe.

I said maybe! I cannot be too certain, after all, 'cause it's a bit like life, you never know what you're gonna get. Rolling Eyes
