Well, some of you may have seen my last post where I thought that I had found a school. I just got an email from the recruiter that the school has pulled its offer to me because they think I am "too cautious and not an easy going person." I guess I asked one too many questions, or maybe when I asked for the teachers number whom I would be replacing was too much. Oh well, seemed like a good position but it may be for the better if they have an attitude like that.

Maybe there was something they didn't want you find out? Sounds like maybe you are lucky you didn't wind up in a crappy position... just a guess... but if they say "you are too cautious" or whatever because you ask too many questions?... well, I'd say they have things they don't want the prospective newcomer foreigner teacher to know. You did right, esp... ask to speak to other foreigners there (at home preferably, or maybe email, not when the boss is around). Good luck in the search. |

I agree, if they didn't hire you cos you were asking too many questions then they definitely had something to hide. As disappointing as it might seem, you had a lucky escape. Don't change tactics. Do try to speak to a teacher from the school beforehand. If the school is good then they'll be more than happy to haveone of their teachers recommend it.
Good Luck. |

Dude, I've asked questions until I'm blue in the face. If a school doesn't have much to worry about, you're fine.
They had something to hide. Either that, or they got burned by an anal-retentive teacher -- but even most anal-retentive type teachers are just concerned about sticking with the contract.
As others said, you're probably lucky not to work there. |

Don't sweat it. There are other schools around. Ask all of the questions you need to make yourself comfortable with the situation.
You should actually contact that recruiter and say that you feel the school was being too cautious and asking too many question of you and you dumped them before they decided not to take you. Or you thought that there weren't enough questions coming from them and you thought they were too reckless and likely to take anyone without concern of the quality of that person.
Ask lots of questions and talk to present and past teachers.
Cheers and good luck with your next experience |

There was a certain husband/wife recruiter place that fed me the same line, and said I was, "too picky" and they couldn't find me a job.
They weren't happy when I said I wouldn't work for any Wonderland or SLP franchises. As it turned out, most jobs they listed (with names hidden) were for those chains. |

Directors everywhere want someone who isn't going to cause them a headache. If you know the score, and know exactly what questions to ask, and know your rights here, they're likely to spit you out.
At the same time, I don't believe in going in and interviewing them with a set of demands. it should be a two way thing. No matter how many times you've been burned before, think of it as a new relationship, approach it with a positive attitude. |

I remember an interview at one school. I really didnt care bout the job, wasnt all that great, I was just using the interview as a practice one for later. The head teacher asked me like 5 questions, then I pulled out my list of questions. I had prepared 20 questions. I didnt get the job, but it was fun to grill THEM. |

I agree with the others here... you've done well & you're most likely luck not to work there. Good luck with your job search! |

In my conversations with recruiters, a lot of schools are hesitant to hire people who ask question after question after question (and sometimes returning over and over with more questions), especially accusatory ones or focus entirely on the self instead of the future, as historically they were the ones that later proved to be the greatest problems.
Basically people who were looking for conspiracies tended to find them as well they historically tended to be the ones the hardest to work with. Of the recruiters I know personally outside of work, they pretty much all will just refuse to help someone who fits the profile as they have all had to pick up the pieces many times when the teacher gets fired. |

I really didnt ask any accusatory questions, basically info on the job.
How many classes a day?
How many students per class?
When can vacation be used?
Is there a set lesson plan?
Have other teachers finished their contracts?
Other teachers phone numbers?
There were about ten others but they were all either job or area related. Anyone know of any good schools that are hiring? PM me if you do.
Thanks.

I agree. The dumber you are and the less experience you have th ebetter in many directors eyes. They can mold you into a slave easier! |
