I just found out recently about the little black bugs that sometimes come with the rice. From googling and from talking to those who claim to know it seems to be quite common and not that big of a deal. Most rice in bulk bags has the larvae- the older the date on the bag the better the chance they will hatch and you will see them crawling around. The old timers say after adding water they float to the top. Just skim them off before cooking!

I just poured myself some milk over honey nut cornflakes and took a couple of mouthfuls, crunch crunch, then looked down to see a black thing bob up to the surface, a live cockroach. I immediately stood up and walked outside, pouring the bowl's contents on the unused garden plot/compost pile, seeing the bug move around some more, coming back inside to ensure that the cereal box ends up in the garbage.
Good morning. |
Oh my god.
We had a roach problem but I haven't seen any for months. But I just bought cereal... maybe...
How big was the roach? Most of the ones I saw in the kitchen were ginormous. It was the ones in the bathroom that were tiny and almost cute. |

big enough to cover a big spoon, and no, nothing cute about it
as we speak it's probably moving around in the garden/compost, a food emporium for it and its kind... unless it's found its way back inside
i have never found a roach in my small town triplex place before, and i've lived in the place for over three years... had one or two of those massive millipede things every spring though... and ladybugs blanket the cracks of windows trying to get in to the warmth every fall |

the rest of the day majorly sucked, as it turned out, one bad thing after another happened
i should just have stayed in bed all day - would have been a vast improvement over what it has turned out to be, all in all |
Staying in bed would have been pretty dumb. The roaches would have eaten you as soon as you went to sleep. They're out to get you! |

It asked where the golden spoon was and demanded to know if the milk was kosher. I think it was a Rothschild. |

You're lucky it was a small one. The roaches in Korea can be huge. A few years ago my girlfriend woke me up because she heard a noise in the apartment. The lights were off but I could sort of make out somethinf walking along the tube that ran from the A.C to the window and hear tiny footsteps. I was sure it was a rat but when I turned on the light it was a monster sized roach. I couldn't find anything to smack it with so I put a plastic bag over my hand and started punching it. I swear I had to hit it at least 3 times before it died. |

| I love stories about gross encounters. once when i was about 11 I woke up to find a dead bug in my ear. i must have killed it by rolling over. i wonder how many other vistors I've had. |

| Did the milk taste funny? The roach might have crapped while it was in the milk. They have a tendency to do stuff like that. |
