I've rescued a stray cat and I want to get her to a shelter in Seoul, however I am worried that if I try to take her there by subway (in a bag) that I might be violating a rule.

Also if anyone happens to know anything about this shelter (http://cafe.daum.net/kittenshelter)
I would be grateful for its location. I know its in the Yongsan area, but I don't know an address or specific location therein.

I cannot keep the cat; I don't have the space, money or time to devote to it, but I absolutely will not turn it back onto the streets. It's obviously been stray only for a short period of time and it deserves better. Please help.

chicks carry lap dogs in bags all the time onto buses and subways. shouldn't be a problem. Unless the train is full of hungry Koreans.....

Using a cat carrier would be safer for the cat, and I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem on the subway. Thanks for helping her.

I also think a cat carrier would be better. It's great that you're helping the little guy!

Contact Allie at: [email protected]

She can probably give you directions to the shelter.

are you sure the cat wasn't happy living outside? Rescuing a cat and keeping it is fine in my opinion, but rescuing a cat and taking it to a shelter where it might eventually be killed seems like a whole other matter to me.
I'm sure some cats like living outside.

For example, I live in HaeBangChon, and there is an outdoor cat that is always fed by a cafe, and it seems quite happy with its situation, always sitting on the porch. It even likes people. I hope that someone doesn't end up "rescuing" that cat if they're just going to take it to a shelter.

The shelter corvidae333 is talking about is Nabiya Cat shelter, they have a no kill policy and keep the cats until they find homes as far as I know . There are also other no kill shelters in Korea. I can understand what you are saying about taking an animal to a regular city shelter where they might be euthanised though.

Solution - use a taxi. People have allergies.

When was the last time Korea had those rule things?... You could probably let the cat run around free on the subway car and not get into any serrious trouble Razz

(Don't do that... LOL... Borrow a cat carrier and cover with a blanket. Found that's been the best way to get my cat around...)

Also, google Animal Rescue Korea... They'll be able to recommend a few good shelters in the GSA (Greater Seoul Area) and maybe even hook you up with a carrier to borrow

My friend rescued a kitten from a shelter in Itewon. It was like an apartment filled with cats. Well diseases and infections spread pretty quick in those environments. The kitten seemed in decent health when we brought it to her apartment. The next day the little guy was sneezing everywhere. Fast forward to a week later and now the kitten is sneezing bloody snot everywhere. We take it to the vet, they do what they could, give it meds. They have little effect and this goes on for months. Finally, the cat gets better, but there were still those 3 months where she had bloody cat snot on everything. So just make sure the cat you get from the shelter is healthy. If it looks too sleepy or something get another one.

We brought it home in a taxi, in a cat carrier we bought from the vet. Cats are pretty skittish and if you can afford the cabfare I would go with that.

I got my cat from the Nabiya shelter, which is indeed an apartment full of cats. She was sick at the beginning and sneezed gross snot all over the place for about a month (no blood though...yikes!) Anyway, she got better on her own, no meds.

I am so thankful to have had her as a companion these past two years. She will be coming to Canada with me.

If you have the space, please consider adopting a cat. There is also an option to 'foster', which means taking in a cat until a permanent home becomes available.

Cats do well in small apartments. And they're OK alone for the day (unlike dogs, who need more attention). They may get a little bored, but at least they have a safe, warm home, and their health, and some love.

Just don't let it poop, or you too may be hounded by the netizens and referred to as catpoop boy/girl, the sequel to dogpoop girl.
