I have to do an extra camp for 19 grade 3's. It's the same students, four periods a day ... for one week.

Every period has to be teaching (no movies)...

Anyone do something similar to this in the past? Were the students bored out of their minds, or did they enjoy it?

in my opinion, you've got a great camp set-up (besides the no movie part Wink ). 19 students means probably only 16 will show which makes the class manageable but competitive games still possible. also, with just one week of camp you won't have to worry about making a ton of lesson plans.

i'm assuming you're talking about third grade MS? they're obviously not going to be happy to be there, but if you plan some enjoyable lessons, activities, games, and a group project or two, i think a majority of them will think it's a better alternative to hagwon at least.

Your lucky that you just have a week with them. I have to do a grade 1 class, two times a day for five weeks.

Elementary students.

And activities/games shouldn't use much, or any writing (what I was told by a co-teacher).

I have to do 2 other weeks of camps as well, but different grades throughout the day.

How are you going to make your camp interesting for that long?

it's definitely going to be tough. i've already planned 2 weeks of it; there's going to be science and cooking units with group projects for the kids to do, a unit on different countries and cultures with associated activities and games. basically, i'm trying to strategically plan the lessons/activities/games/group work so that i'm not running myself into the ground each day.

for elementary, i suggest doing some crafts and making things like valentine day cards. maybe have the kids do a little skit in groups. also, since you're doing 2 more weeks of camp with different grades, i suggest using the same camp plan throughout, but alter it slightly to make it a bit more difficult/easy depending on the grade. that way you can put more effort into a decent lesson plan and use it a few times.

Holy crap. Shocked

That is genuinely a colossal undertaking. Are they expecting that much planned material in advance? I'm chewing on 5 days worth. I hate lesson planning.

If you can't have movie day Fridays, you are going to have a mutiny on your hands. I would be "collaborating" with your coteacher and making her do the planning. You will probably find the camp will be cut back if coteach has to do a lot of work.

Thanks nomad-ish.

I wish you the best with your grade 1s and 2s.

rusty & grandpa: thanks for the support. Smile i have to admit i was really surprised when my co-teacher told me; i asked her to repeat herself a couple times! luckily, she didn't say anything to me about no movie days, so i'm definitely showing at least 2 films during that time.

good luck with your camps as well!
