Yes, i remember that post.
Are they only saying that at the Frisbee store?
I went to a couple of SHOW stores yesterday and they told me they are not offering one year contracts yet. |
I haven't checked any SHOW stores, but the guy who helped me at Frisbee spoke directly to someone at KT on the phone, a couple times, to answer my questions. |
Just got back from the Frisbee store and was told there was nothing like that.
Do you remember the guy you talked with? |

Frisbee is just an intermediary. KT is the one that is giving you the phone service. The Frisbee guy can say whatever he wants. When it comes down to signing you up, in the end he's gotta call KT and the service turned on.
As far as KT's policy, there is no 1 year contract. Not even Koreans can get 1 year contracts. That might change in the near future.
@aphase
I think the I-plans are limited in what you can do. By picking separate plans, you can customize your phone anyway you want. I use maybe 200 minutes a month talking (calls I make), and I send about 150 texts. The majority of my phone use is people calling/texting me. If I want 1 GB of data, it doesn't make much sense for me to get an I-Medium plan, when most the talking/text messages I get included in the plan go to waste.
For me, its better to get a basic calling plan, add 8,000w for the 300 texts a month package, and then get a 1GB Smart Phone data plan. My bill comes out cheaper than the I-medium plan.
People who wanted the I-slim and the I-premium lose out. There is no 3GB smart phone package offered with KT, although I think that will change very soon.
People who thought about getting an I-light or I-medium plan can definitely customize their SHOW service so that you end up paying roughly the same each month. |

What do you mean by "a million restrictions"? Thanks. |
Once you sign the contract, you are obligated to it. You can't come back to SHOW the next day and say, "Sorry, this isn't for me, I want to cancel". There is no trial period. That means:
If you decide to upgrade your phone you owe SHOW the full price of the Iphone. If you decide to sell your phone you owe SHOW the full price. If you break your contract early you owe SHOW the full price. I got a 3GS 32GB, so 950,000 is a big chunk of change. |

| As far as I know, my roommate and I are both on the premium plans and only paid 130,000 for each phone. |

I guess what pkang said is probably more accurate. In other words, I probably could have gotten the iPhone that day on my E2 if it lasted more than 12 months (which I am still trying to do) as the guy he was talking to at KT said it was OK. Things have probably changed since then (over a week ago) as they seem to be changing daily at KT. If I go to Frisbee now and try to get it, the guy I spoke to will have to call KT and they will probably nix it. Frustrating. Anyways, I was at the Myeongdong Frisbee store and lined up to get served upstairs. When they saw I was a foreigner they took me to the older, smaller Frisbee shop across the street. That's where the guy who helped me was working. |

This is an interesting article. I was teaching one of my adult students tonight and told him about my ordeal getting an iphone despite the fact that I have an F4 visa. The main issue that I had was that the store I went to said that I couldn't have one of the plans such as I-lite I-medium etc, and that I would have to pay 30,000 won monthly payments for the phone instead of the 16,000 won payments that a korean would get with the I-medium plan (not including the service charges)
My student then called KTF to confirm the rules for me.
When he called KTF they said that wasn't true at all, and that the store must have been mistaken. My student then asked for a recommendation of a shop that would know the exact rules, and they gave him the phone number of a shop. He then called the shop, and they confirmed that there wouldn't be a problem. Anyways, i'll go check out the shop tomorrow and see what happens and let you guys know if it works out well.

Before I left for my vacation in Thailand, I put myself on the waiting list and when I got back, the phone was waiting for me (I put myself on the waiting list 22 Nov, came back on 2 Dec), 32GB Black, with all the apps, it's like a netbook...
As for the haters, yes, Samsung & LG may have more features per se, but there isn't any one GREAT feature, whereas the iPhone has a lot fewer features, BUT every feature IS GREAT, and this is something the jerkoff haters don't seem to comprehend...and don't need a netbook w/ the iPhone...
Quality not quantity |

Just remember, when you go to a Show shop, there are 2 types...
1. Run directly by KT
2. Run by authorized dealers.
If you can't speak Korean, one way to (not 100% but...) know if it's run directly by KT is that the customer service girls wear uniforms whereas authorized dealers don't have customer service girls as a rule of thumb.
If you're in the 강남 area, exit number 1 on 강남 station and just walk straight towards 역삼 station and there's a big Show branch there...Any other questions, feel free to PM me |

No, E-2 visas are only valid for a year at a time. Even if you sign a 2-year contract with your employer you still need to renew your visa after one year. |
