I could understand copy editors making a mistake but an alien graveyard is really too bizarre to not question seriously and even a quick glance at the weekly world news should be enough to know that it's not serious. |

I'm sure the copy editors don't determine the content of the newspaper.
I have nothing to do with the Times, but I've done that type of work before. Copy editors may see an article for 10 minutes before they have to send it to the layout artists, and then it goes into the paper regardless of what condition it's in.
Why the alien story is still on the Web site I have no idea. |

I did- it was priceless.
This is "serious" journalism.
I should send a copy of both the one where they try to set the record straight about their coverage of foreigners and this article to a real newspaper like the New York Times to show them what type of journalism is done in Korea- simply priceless.
What makes it all the more amusing is that Koreans are reading this story and believing every word of it.
Again, simply priceless! |

In case they do remove the story, here it is:

Alien Graveyard Found
Extraterrestrial cemetery in Rwanda, Central Africa which is at least 500 years old, was discovered.
According to the Weekly World News, Dr. Hugo Childs, the Swiss anthropologist said, "There must be 200 bodies buried there and not a single one of them is human."
Dr. Childs and his colleagues reportedly discovered the alien graveyard on a routine survey of the Rwandan jungle.
"Soil and tissue samples indicate the bodies have been in the ground since the 1400s. We're now trying to figure out where they came from ― and what killed them," said Dr. Childs.
The creatures themselves were much taller and skinnier than humans and they stood about 7 feet tall. Their heads were larger than the average man's and they had no mouth, nose or eyes to speak of.
Dr. Childs speculated that the 200 aliens were part of a single landing party that encountered a deadly virus. Because they would have had no immunity to Earth disease, he added, something as simple as the flu could have wiped out the entire party.
He would not take reporters to the site, for fear of the bodies being disturbed. However, he promised to reveal the location once the excavation was complete. "It will change the world," Dr. Childs said.

In Korea, truth is based on consensus. Since several websites are running the story as though it were true, ipso facto, it must be true.

Oh, and there was a photo, so it really really must be true:

Real newspapers don't use "Dr." for people with Ph.Ds.

The KT should hire Ed Anger, his commentary seems to match the KT's editorial style.
I've been a fan of the WWN since the mid 90s- The Page 5 Girl, Dear Dottie (America's Most Outspoken Advice Columnist) and Serena Saybak (America's Sexiest Psychic) were great fodder, to say nothing of Bat Boy or Abe Lincoln being a woman.
The KT should just take the plunge and become the like the WWN, it pretty much is already, minus the quality writing. |

Yes! I still have some columns lying around about how Ed Anger felt the Chinese had a plan to destroy the world by jumping up and down at the same time and throwing the earth out of orbit, or a page-long tirade against cats because they're "lazy."
Ah, a KT article about space aliens and it's still up. Christmas came early. Someone send this to Letterman!
I think I'll give the KT an anonymous tip-off about the "Egyptian Mummy that Sings Elvis Hits." |

You should also grant KT an interview and see if they believe your leaked military secrets. |

I used that article (and the WWW original, and an unrelated story about the Bat-boy in Harvard) with some students yesterday, and they loved it. They thought it was pretty funny and all agreed that while the local newspaper industry is a long-running and generally unfunny joke, this is really plumbing a shocking new low.
What really blows my mind is that they haven't yet withdrawn it from the website, or printed a retraction, or anything, even two days later. |

Alien Autopsy Conducted at U.S. Base. 2MB is an Alien. The K-Government is under control of Aliens, and not the fun kind that the AES hates.
Maybe we can cause a feedback in the disinformation pipeline- Convince the AES that there are Martians in Korea brainwashing the girls and cite a WWN-influenced Korea Times article. The AES then turns into a joke when it starts an anti-Alien campaign. |

Impossible. Retraction = loss of face. Better to just continue printing garbage and pretend that everything is ducky. |

Funny you should mention that because I was used more than once as a source for their articles regarding US-Korean military relations.

Knowing how Koreans think, this actually sounds like a plausible idea, lol. |
