The drought has been particularly severe in South Gyeongsang province where wildfires have been frequently reported, the administration said. Forest fires have been on the increase this year because of unusually dry conditions over much of the peninsula. According to Forest Service statistics, 111 forest fires have occurred since the beginning of the year, which is five times as many than during the same period last year.

Drought fires in korea, floods in New Zealand: world climate change and its effects are starting to kick in. Of course by the time it really starts to hurt, it'll be too late. And all us environmental campaigners who've been saying "preserve and protect the natural environment" for years, to deaf ears, will be able to do, is say "I told you so".
People enjoy this, -the last century of life on earth.

Let me correct you Rapier.
life will go on, just not human life(perhaps). well maybe not in this capacity but you would be surprised at human adaptability. If it comes to survive or perish than humans will adapt(though not all). we survived a huge ice age when conditions were so much worse than what is forecast to come.

As a birdwatcher let me share an interesting observation: this decade has seen a dramatic rise in the numbers of hybrid birds being noticed...this proves climate change. Birds ranges are suddenly sifting, and similar species that were previously separated by different climate zones are suddenly interbreeding. Usually tropical species ,are now being found much further north than before, and the usual arrival and departure dates for spring and autumn migrants (unchanged for centuries previously) have shifted by up to 2 weeks in the past 15 years. Incredible and worrying indications of what is underway....

I don't deny climate change(only a fool or the idiots that have control of the american and in fairness Australian governments won't see it) and I agree with your statement.
What i am saying is that humanity will probably survive, though not in the capacity it is in now. It is possible that society could go backward to an agricultural society in a couple hundred years living in limited areas of the earth. Will prove to be interesting.
I can gaurantee you life won't end though because of this. Possibly human species but not all life.
To be honest Rapier, do you a frugal lifestyle that doesn't contribute to global warming or do you accept that it is going to happen and let the shit hit the fan(as i suppose I do).

I also believe that climate change is happening, but floods and fires than cause damage are more the result of poor land use planning than the flood and fire itself. Of couse without the flood and fires then there would be no damage, but better policies and better warning systems can prevent a lot of the damage cuased by floods and fires...

I think the drought has broken. It poured rain all last night here near Busan. I think w e got our Feb. average in one night which was about 50 mm.
