We all know that both good and bad schools exist in Korea. This thread is an opportunity for you to share your experiences.

Focusing on how to identify a good/bad school will help new teachers select good schools to work at and improve the experience of foreign teachers in Korea.

Never take a Hagwon job at a Hagwon with less than 30 students.

What's your reason for this?

the reason being that less than 30 students often means the school is on it's last legs.

Beware of schools that brag up and down about themselves, yet seem unable to share correct information as to how many students there are attending the school.

Try and meet your future co-workers and see how they are.

I'm a gyopo who speaks no Korean at a hagwon where Korean is spoken amongst the workers. It helps that one of my co-workers was a guy who has no problems translating paperwork, meetings, etc for me. He also helped me do "life" things like setting up my bank account, etc.

If you have good co-workers, it can really turn work into pleasure.

I think you can get a feel of how good a school or academy is by talking to the VP/owner. A good school should have nothing to hide. Dodgy answers to your questions should arouse some suspicion.
