Hi, I did a year's teaching at a good college south of Soeul 2008-09 and made the notes on the file below from my observations; I posted something similar six months back but this is in rather better proofed form- all comments indeed read with interest . Best wishes, Sean

It looks like you took a lot of time writing about your experiences. I'll check it out |

Interesting read... What was your purpose in writing it? Just a record? To see if you could do it? It doesn't ring of publishing material. Why did you post it here? Just wanted an audience? Do you want direct feedback? If so, be specific about what you want. You're a teacher - you know how it goes... |

Hi Khenan
Yes my purpose was just a record: I tend to feel a need to write down thoughts if they seem kind-of worth something. I post it here with a view to those taking on Korean contracts early next year, plus just wanting an audience, for sure. No specific feedback required, though the negative questions stuff really got my attention at the time... |

If you mean me, I wasn't trying to be negative... sorry! ^^ |

It's making for an interesting read, thanks for posting it.
I like this line especially:
...otherwise South Korea is safe and trusting, lacking sufficient passion even for crime...
I'm sure there are people on the boards who will disagree, but I think you've hit the nail on the head there. |

Thanks Oldtactics.
DIsbell- interesting comment- I try to be aware of my own prejudiced perspective but critique needs to start somewhere... |

I'd like to keep this floating around for a month or two- a sojourn over there raises many questions about different peoples and cultures... |

I actually think he put it very succinctly there. I think when most westerners mean 'crime', they mean street violence/house burglary etc. Of course white collar crime and crime against women and children is fairly rife here. |

Yes I guess it's a rant in parts, perhaps reflecting my lack of suitability for teaching, though I don't agree with the way teaching's organized anyway... |
