|
|
Hi, So I'm currently an English teacehr with GEPIK in Dongducheon and My contract ends at the end of May. SO I'm looking for a job with Seoul / Smoe at the start of June, or is that even possible?
Should I just expect to wait until the Fall term begins, or is there usually the ability to start early?
Also as I hear that competition is higher than ever, what other things should I do to increase my ability to secure a job? I know TEFL is on the list. |

I don't think there is that much competition for SMOE. After SMOE changes it's policies come March, I think you will find that competition is not high.
I am looking at other work else where for Summer.
I am getting tired of the nonsense that SMOE propagates. I can go to other countries and make more than 2x my salary and have full benefits. |

I'm sorry, I have to plead ignorance on this - what changes?
I heard that SMOE likes is known to jerk people around, but what are the "new" changes that is causing such distress? |

This is what I've heard (from my friendliest co-teacher) is happening at my own school. I'm not sure how accurate it is.
The regular teaching hours per week will be upped from 20 to 24. Co-teachers will no longer rotate in and out of the class, with the respective classes they teach. I will now teach with only one co-teacher, who will share my room at all times and teach all those 24 hours with me. The teacher they are putting in my room happens to be the one highest on my s*%$ list at the moment.
In addition to the above, I have been asked to teach two 4-hour per week after school classes. I'll have to say yes to at least one of them. This means at least 28 hours a week, possibly 32.
I have no idea if it will be similar/the same at other SMOE schools (I teach at a middle school, btw). If it will be, S'n'C is right on the money. The only reason I haven't pulled a runner yet is because I don't have the cash. Working here is exhausting and soul-crushing. |
