I recently just helped my sister build a new rig in the USA two weeks ago. It costed a little over 1500 dollars. The parts I bought are below. The other parts were salvaged from the old desktop.

1.8GB Geforce 275m
2.8ghz core i7
4GB Corsair ram
Asus extreme MB
1000watt Antec PW
Full tower Coolermaster(200$, this thing was awe inspiring)

Looking at:

i7 920 (2.66 Ghz 8MB cache)
1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon HD 5870 CrossfireX (or Dual 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240 - SLI Enabled)
6GB Triple Channel 1600MHz DDR3
1TB RAID 0 (2x 500GB SATA-II, 7,200 RPM)
liquid cooling system
1KW PSU
whatever X motherboard...

Anyone want to price this?

Well, for only 2 million to spend, thats not too "wild" It can build you a good mid-range gaming rig, but around 4-5 mil is where you start getting into the stuff of legends

4-5M for a PC is retarded.

Computers are like any other consumer product. Like cars, hi-fi, boats....whatever.........You can make them as expensive as you like. But in the current market, the law of diminishing returns kicks in hard at about $2000 USD or so......after that you're spending more for designer looks and bragging rights rather than actual FPS.

- Intel i7 920
- good x58 board (few out with SATA 6, USB 3)
- 6 or 12GB RAM (cheapest possible - works just fine)
- AMD HD 5870
- there's absolutely no need for a 1KW PSU!
- Intel X25-M SSD (80, 160 or 2x80 in 0 RAID array) for OS and games
- 1TB (or 2TB) HDD for storage, probably Samsung F3

I'd advise against cheapest possible RAM. Yes it will work fine, but i'm figuring that if you are even slightly thinking of a computer with this specs (especially with that PSU) you'll be looking at overclocking, and good ram will give you head room.

You're right about the OC'ing. I thought that the OP wouldn't be OC'ing that high, if at all. I'm sure he can get 3.4 - 3.6GHz with normal priced and slower rated RAM. If his aim is 4GHz, well, then he needs good RAM, good individual CPU, good mobo, good cooling and good luck!

Mobo's can use RAM which are rated at different speeds. The slower RAM is cheaper and offers you almost the same FPS in games as faster rated and more expensive RAM. (This is naturally w/out OC'ng.) The gains are minimal, only few fps at most of the time/games. Take a look over here, especially page 10:

ANANDTECH - Memory scaling on core i7

As for PSU, many would be surprised how far even a "measly" 650W quality PSU can take you. The market hype for monstrous 1KW PSUs is just that. Hype.

What's the native screen resolution OP will be using? If it is less than 1920*1200, I think HD 5850 would be fast enough for him.

Sorry need to resurrect this as i'm looking at getting this built probably somewhere at the Electronics Market at Nambu Bus Terminal. Anyone have suggestions on mobo's to work with above config? Also per the previous post i'm not looking at OC'ing - too much risk and this rig is high enough spec.

I'd say the HD5870 crossfire graphics solution is less desirable than a single HD5970.

You'll use less power, produce less heat, and only take up one double-slot. And possibly less driver issues.

Anyway, a single HD5970 will get ample FPS in any current game at max settings......and probably any game for the next 18 months.

But I'd definitely wait until about the end of April to see what Nvidia brings out and to see how it affects the prices of ATI cards........although in Korea, probably not much.

Hmm you think so? I mean heat and power won't be an issue as will space. Would there really be driver issues with a new card like this and Windows 7? Any other rationale? Are benchmark difference negligible?

The benchmarks are roughly equal. Depends which game. Some games like Crossfire, others don't.

You'll save a bit of money with the 5970 option. Unfortunately, the prices in Korea for this kind of high-end kit are pretty high .....550,000=5870......950,000=5970... Shocked Shocked

Driver issues? Consider the fact that W7 is a pretty new OS and the 5870 is a fairly new card....I'd say driver issues are possible......but I'm not hearing anything serious on the net about 5870CF.

Where do you get games like left 4 dead 2 and Bioshock in Korea? I want to play L4D2 with friends or anyone. Do PC Bang have L4D2 or its just starcraft?

Hot damn...yeah prices are high. I don't want to spend any more than 1.5 - 2M on this rig so i'd say probably couldn't get that card...
