It was a beautiful day today, just gorgeous. Which means that the heaters on the #1 line to Suwon were turned on full blast...I was wearing just a t-shirt and I started to feel sweat run down my legs after about 20 minutes. I'm not even a heavy sweater, I'm really thin.

I had an idea for a terrorist group that goes around sticking those wall thermometers on the inside wall in the trains to show people how bloody hot it actually is...maybe I should call it something else, a nuisance group. The point is to ratchet up the complaints so that it gets fixed.

Just a thought.

But mithridates it the winter SEASON.

Heaters must be used in winter. You must understand that Korea has four distinct SEASONS.

Wait until the summer SEASON for air conditioning. Even if it is hot in February, March or April, air conditioning cannot be used until the summer SEASON. Endure.

But it's the winter SEASON. If it's the winter SEASON the heat must be on! You must also wear your winter SEASON coat at all times (zipped and buttoned all the way up!) - even in a heated classroom. If you do not dress appropriately for the current SEASON you will be unwell. To be well you must dress for the SEASON.

(Now do you get what RR was saying?)

I find this a bit bizarre as well. i was walking to EMart yesterday wearing a T-shirt and I was feeling quite pleasent but all these Koreans were wearing their coats done up tight(in 18 degree heat). If that was me it would have been like an oven. I still don't get their dressing for the distinct season. Dress for the conditions if you ask me.

I've used this situation to teach my students the proper usage of "DUH!!!"

Student (with winter coat on, zipped and buttoned all the way up): Teacher, can you open the door? It's hot in here.
Me: DUH!!! Why don't you take off your coat?
Student: Oh, no!!! I can't do that.
Me: Then stop complaining about the heat and suffer in silence.

IF YOU ARE A KOREAN READING THIS...

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Take off the coat inside! Or atleast take off the G** D*** SCARFF! It is driving me bannas! Do you, don't you, must you, wrap the G** D*** scarf all the way up around your neck so I can barely see you peeking out!

I promise, that if you do this (take off the coat etc.), and get all your fellow countrymen to do the same, I'll stop making fun of Korea! Plus, I'll get some of my friends to make fun of Korea less. IS IT A DEAL?
