rather self explanatory: anything that may have slipped off the comercial radar that was worth checking out.

movie: "The Fall" by Tarsem - produced by Spike Jonze and David Fincher (or Bryan Singer - I always confuse the two) so that should be good enough to elict a viewing.

music: "Rooks" by Shearwater - a really great cd, from a band that I think (hope) has many good days ahead.

TV: can't think of anything right now

Movie: 25th Hour with Ed Norton. Came out in '02 but I only heard about it 5minutes ago. Really great movie.

TV: Action. I mentioned it in an earlier thread today. Not that "hidden" but it wasn't given it's due in its day. Stars Jay Mohr as a production company executive.

Music: Apologies to the Queen Mary, Wolf Parade. I have listened to this album daily for nearly two years.

You sort of hope and wish it will turn out like the fantasy sequence, but you know it won't and you know he doesn't deserve it to work out for him.

I would like to add the movie "Man on Wire". Not really obscure or hidden. I don't think anything on this thread really is.

That being the case I will add a truly obscure gem. "The Locals". A NZ horror flick that come out around 03.

Not sure how hidden this is, but I thought the film 'Evolution' starring David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Orlando Jones, and Seann William Scott (who I normally loathe) was absolutely and unexpectedly hilarious. I laughed out loud practically every five minutes.

Most people, when I ask if they have seen it, have never heard of it, though.

Also, the Spanish film 'The Orphanage' is outstanding.

How about my last batch of music? I only told about a half dozen people about it.

I don't know if I'd call it a "gem". Half the people who listened to it said they "liked it" and didn't explain why, the other half said it made them seasick. This post represents probably the most effort I've ever put into publicizing.

Holy crap! That's so underground only moles know about it!

Good effort by the way. Usually people just use facts and evidence to prove me wrong. No one has ever gone to the effort of writing a whole album to prove me wrong!

Great thread. Some of the best movies I have ever seen came from suggestions like these. So far I have downloaded 25th Hour, The Fall, and Let The Right One In based on recommendations from this thread. I will watch them in the next few days. Thanks!!

I'd like to recommend an entertaining movie just under the ten year mark from 1999 called Payback with Mel Gibson. The only reason it would have been hidden is that, if you were like me, you were hesitant to give it a chance because you may have thought it was too commercial and hence formulaic. I was pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise.

A good movie is "Downfall" (Der Untergang). One of its scenes is the one where Hitler goes nuts about his Xbox360 account being canceled in that Internet meme. Despite that, its a very good movie. Again not very "hidden', but not exactly mainstream.

another great movie to check out that was only loved by the critics was "American Splendor" a very prosaic love story/bio pic. told in a most original way. I was floored by the scene where the actors walk off set and talk with the people they play in the movie.

Oh, and I just say "24 hour party people" and really liked it, but I am a big fan of Joy Division and Manchester, as a whole.

Wasn't the 25th hour directed by Spike Lee?
