Okay, this is a follow-up question to a former thread about private lessons (which I think was removed). Can people on an E-2 visa get legal permission to work a second job, and, if so, what is the procedure?

I work at a hagwon with hourly wages, and for various reasons (some my fault, some not) I have been blacklisted from receiving any hours. My employer doesn't want to fire me, because if I quit, he can get his recruiter's fee refunded. So I still have my visa. However, I pay for my own apartment, so I need to start making money fast.

Working a second job would solve this problem, at least temporarily. However, my employer denies that second jobs are legal for E-2 holders. He advised me to either make a clean break, or to teach illegal private lessons while I wait 2 or 3 months for the schedulers to give a blacklisted teacher a second chance.

Does anyone have any advice?

Can't make more than E2 school
Hours can't overlap
up to 2 part time employers

I'm also intersted in working a second job. I'll be at a unigwon only working 20 hours with 3 office hours, and would like to work at a kindy or maybe a test hagwon to earn a bit more to help pay for my husband and my university fees-.

How hard is it to get permission to work a second job? And is there a lot of paperwork involved?

Naturegirl- some universities openly permit it (usually as long as the second job is 'teaching' (as opposed to acting, perhaps even writing jobs etc.)), some unis do not and may even be stated in the contract, and I have also been told that "the matter could be discussed later" by others, suggesting that they may be open to the idea but would obviously want to know the exact nature of the work. So in answer to your question: it is completely up to the individual university, so no matter what people here say, it will have to be determined in a conversation between you and your director. I believe the paperwork involved is minimal.
