I am out of pens. I only have sign pens. One color is missing, I can't tell which ones. Christmas day will find me in Myeong-dong, pen shopping. Haggling for the best pens, and multiples, many multiples thereof. Pens for the kids now, not candies.

I only use green color ink when grading papers. Red is blood, death, guts, etc.; whereas green is grass, trees, and life affirming. Kind of a Jungian thing with me, really. Smile

Writing instruments are pretty expensive here, even if they're just a regular old pencil or pen you'd find back in your home country.

That's why I have to haggle hard!

...Maybe this is why my kids are asking Santa Claus for "pens and sharp pencils".

I must have had a priviliged upbringing. Our pencils and school items including books were kept in our desks. We had our own desks.

I was also one of the lucky ones with our own desk, but I still couldn't find my pencil and pens. Maybe I should of be organized a little better. I remember one time I didn't clean out my desk, the next year my teacher handed me a trash bag with all of my stuff. Inside I found a bunch of pens and $5, and of course all of the handouts I could never find.....

Koreans don't like Red Ink. It's a social Taboo. so that is probably a good idea.

these days i live in rural china. one township over the teachers actually live in their classrooms.one of these teachers tells the story of a pair of twin boys. they share one pencil. sadly, not because of poverty but that they can't be bothered to get another!
