"Our small tea bag group here in Waycross, we got our vigil together and took Dr. Coburn's instructions and prayed real hard that Sen. Byrd would either die or couldn't show up at the vote the other night," the caller said.

Earnestly praying for people to die. And these people still no doubt feel they have the right to pontificate about family values.

I like Josh Marshall's take on this story:

"In the honor of the Christmas holiday, I have to say that I think the prankster responsible for these two prank calls on CSpan, the latter of which is the now-notorious prayer-death call, is perhaps a true comedic genius. You have to listen a few times before the subtlety of the humor really comes through. If only he would come forward.

Of course, there's the one or two percent chance that the guy is really on the up and up, which would also be funny, though mortifying as a member of the same species."
