I'm working and I have these elelmentary kids sitting in front of me trying to figure out the reading comprehension questions. They should be home opening presents, drinking hot chocolate while watching Charlie Brown Christmas specials... I feel sad for these kids and I feel sad that I had to work today. |

Christmas is not an important holiday for Koreans. Even if they were at home they probably wouldn't be doing what you would think they should be doing for Christmas. |

Christmas is a 'Christian' holiday...er...was...
Anyway, Korea is not steeped in 'Christian' traditions so it'd be a bit silly to try and impose this on them. Some Koreans celebrate it, some don't. I don't think those kids *should* be doing any of those things necessarily. Though it is a national holiday so I don't believe they should have to be in school. |

I am surprised any teacher is working....I am currently in a fleece bathrobe covered with Rudolphs ice-skating and drinking tea.....I would hate to be working today.
On a side issue.....are shops etc. open today? |

Even when I worked in a hawgwon I still had xmas off. My first xmas in Korea was nursing a hangover the likes Satan has only known.
I wish I had something to do today though, after being off for a week, I've done most of the interesting things I had lined up to do! |

I never had Christmas Eve off during my hagwon days. I had Christmas Day but the wonjangnim still had vocabulary and high school grammar teachers come in to torture those kids studying TEPs or Su Neung English. |
