I have heard too many opposing views and recently heard from my university that one had to have an Education or English related degree to secure an E1. If this is true, it is new. Can anyone tell me what exactly are the requirements for an E1. I could not confirm the above on the immigration website

I have had an E1 for 2 years. The uni told me that the requirements for an E1 were a masters/PhD and 2+ years teaching at the uni level. I know a number of teachers with E1's, and most do not have degree in education or English.

I think the rules can vary depending on the immigration office and the immigration officer in question. Some seem to give an E1 to anyone with an MA teaching at a university. My colleague however tried to apply for an E1 but was rejected because the university department he was working for was not the same subject as what he did his MA in.

I haven't heard of any practical differences between the 2 visas anyways. Are there any?

I started work at the same time as a coworker on an E2. I did not have to provide a CBC to immigration or take a medical exam which my coworker was required to. However, my employer did require a CBC for their own requirements. This only saved me a small amount of money since I didn't have to provide an apostilled version, and the medical exam isn't very costly.
