|

Letter sent to [email protected]
In regards to the following posting, ID: 1523255222
There are various Korean media outlets that are trying to bait foreigners by posting ads to participate in a 'studio audience' or 'voice acting' or any other kind of job related to TV production with ads that offer large sums of money for a small amount of work.
However, as it has been documented by several residents who responded, or were 'baited' into meeting at certain locations, it seems as if the TV station is actually trying to document how foreign residents are violating visa laws by pursuing extra work. I would not expect Craigslist to tolerate any kind of TOS violation, which is why I am requesting the email and company be issued a request to 'cease and desist' from further baiting of foreign residents in Korea.
After responding to this ad, under a different email address, I was directed to simply meet at a designated spot in Seoul, presumably in sight of hidden cameras which would be documenting as well as providing evidence to visa authorities for sting operations.
The following posts are from a well known expat bulletin board where the actions of the aforementioned TV production company has been proven to violate craigslist TOS as well as local Korean laws. Please read over these posts, which are dated for a few weeks ago, feel free to pull up any archives of their posts as verification.
I sincerely hope swift action can be taken against people and companies such as this, that are using a great medium of communication such as CL to promote fear and anger toward the expat community residing in South Korea.
Posts for consideration:

Wouldn't matter if it were 2k/day. It's extra employment and it's illegal for e-2's. All they need to list is any kind of monetary compensation and you're busted.
Previous attempts at baiting were higher than 20k, check the posts I listed. |

They aren't asking for e2s. It would be legal for f2 and students. |

True, but visa types weren't mentioned in previous job opportunity postings/sting operations. Foreigners were herded and either filmed for exposes or arrested. |

| Why not just get a group of F2s to show up at all these places and collect the cash, it'd be egg on their face if nothing but a group of legal foreigners showed up. |

They would still make their expose tv show showing how all these foreigners are breaking the law. Koreans watching this on tv would have no idea what visa those foreigners have. |

I think you could easily find a lawyer who'd take the libel case on that one.. x10, big pay day for him. |

Possibly true. But at the end of the day all the Koreans watching the show get the message that foreigners are evil doers. No libel lawsuit after the fact will change that. |
