What is everyone doing after teaching in Korea? I am very interested in getting my masters of education and wondered how teaching abroad for a year or two looked when applying to schools?

Going back...because korea never lets go!!

I left a year and a half ago, got my masters and now I'm coming back.

Not too excited about the return but it's better than not working at home, plus I am going back to a great school and I get to see some old friends, and my g.f is coming back too Smile

What kind of master's in education are you looking to get. Are you already licensed? Do you need licensure? Are you aiming for a degree in education administration?

As for applying to education graduate schools, they probably won't care much about what you've done. They'll just want you to have a decent undergraduate GPA, decent GRE or MAT scores, and a legible statement of intent. If the school you apply to has any credibility, then someone in the department will likely know what's up with ESL in Korea; so don't pat yourself too much on the back for this gig.

I returned home, got my bachelors of Ed and then my masters.

Nobody cares about overseas teaching experience. GPA and placements in North American classrooms are what they looked at.

As of right now I have done some substitute teaching here in the U.S and wanted a chance to travel abroad/do something different before going for a masters program. I have a bachelors degree in business economics, minor in sports management. I don't have any teaching experience/licenses/certifications except the TESOL 100 hour course. I plan on coming to S. Korea for a year to teach, and depending on how it goes, staying for a 2nd year.

I don't necessarily want to teach long-term and am more interested in the administration side of education (in the US). I plan on applying for masters of education programs or similar programs and just wanted to know whether teaching abroad had any positive/negative impact on this. If they are only interested in U.S work I may have to do a teach for America type program and only do S. Korea for a year.

Mostly, I just want to hear the path other people took and what they are doing after teaching in Korea? Be it masters programs, jobs in education, etc?
