Back your data up to another drive and just keep the case and swap the HDD out for a new one of your choosing. ANY computer shop can do it for you.
As an alternative, drop into the son-in plaza at Yongsan buy a case and HDD of your choice. 2.5 inch cases are about 20k won and the drive itself will run from 25-200k depending on size and manufacturer. The place that sells you the drive (or case) can put them together for you (probably free).
On your old one, the case may be "Buffalo" but the HDD inside the case was probably just a HDD off the shelf from one of the major HDD manufacturers (like western digital, etc). |

I just purchased a "Samsung 2TB" external drive - at TechnoMart.
It cost 280,000won. But I like it.
I actually recommend if you are worried about the cost - then purchase two (2) 1TB drives, as they are only around 70,000won now. |

This is not your N. American Costco. You cannot count on the Korean Costco selling quality products at good prices. I have bought an oven with a manufacturing defect that was three times the price in the States. The computer gear and kitchen appliances that I've priced at Korea Costco you can get cheaper on gmarket.
But I hear they have a good return policy. I lived too far to try it. Try returning your WD drive. |

I prefer Western Digital or Seagate and have had no problems/issues with them. Bought a 2.5" WD Mypassport recently and it's great. |

If you are really, really, really bored, you get a kick out of this website:
http://www.datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php
It is a collection of the sounds of hard drives dying.
Perhaps one of them will sound familiar, siborg69. |
