IPR Exclusive: Confirmed, Rand Paul to run for US Senate in Kentucky
May 14th, 2009
Quote: |
For weeks now Rand Paul has been considering a run for US Senate in Kentucky, anticipating that Sen. Bunning will retire. This week he let it be known that he would be making a major announcement on national television, on the Rachel Maddow show on Thursday. Now, a mere one hour before the show, I have discovered their as-of-yet unannounced decision (though its pretty clear by their actions). RandPaul2010.com is a website that has gone active within the last couple of hours and is obviously the official campaign website for Rand Pauls run for US Senate in Kentucky. |

He looks better and speaks better than his father.
And coming soon, Peter Schiff for US Senate in Connecticut 2010:

The entrance of Rand Paul into this US Senate race is the culmination of a draft effort by PEAC-PAC, the people who financed and built Rand2010.com, a draft website which is now re-directing to Schiff2010.com, an effort to draft Peter Schiff to run for US Senate in Connecticut. |

On this 4 month old video, he says maybe. Other more recent videos and his speaking tour makes it look more and more like a yes.
The rEVOLution continues.

Just saw him on Rachel Maddow. Kept waiting for the question: Are you as nutty as your dad? Any insight on this? |

I'm excited. Bunning is unremarkable (although he did vote against the bailout, unlike the Senate Minority leader) and Rand Paul does not exude any of the old man on the bus sensibilities of his father. |

I'm gonna take a guess and say that Kuros is referencing the archetypal old geezer who sits on the midday bus, muttering incoherently to himself and scaring the children. |

He and Schiff would be nice additions. I doubt either will win, though I don't know anything about their districts. |

What are the chances the Republican Party will split into the (rump) Republican Party of the Sane and the Radical Right Party? |

Put a bone through his hair and he'd look like Sideshow Mel.

Poll: Rand Paul Leads In Kentucky Republican Senate Primary
Eric Kleefeld | November 4, 2009, 12:04PM
A new SurveyUSA poll in Kentucky finds that Rand Paul, an ophthalmologist and son of Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), has a narrow lead in the Republican primary for Senate against the establishment favorite, Secretary of State Trey Grayson.
The numbers: Paul 35%, Grayson 32%, within the 4.7% margin of error. Back in August, Grayson was ahead of Paul by 37%-26%. This is a Republican-held open seat, currently occupied by retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning. |
Dr. Rand Paul has raised over $1.3 million so far for his campaign. |

Poll: Rand Paul Has Big Lead In Kentucky GOP Senate Primary
Eric Kleefeld | December 22, 2009, 10:58AM
The new survey of Kentucky by Public Policy Polling (D) gives Rand Paul, a conservative activist and son of Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), a huge lead over the establishment candidate in the Republican primary for Senate in 2010.
The numbers: Rand Paul 44%, Secretary of State Trey Grayson 25%. Grayson was recruited to run in place of two-term GOP Sen. Jim Bunning, who is retiring. Paul, however, has mobilized his campaign around the Tea Party movement and his outsider conservative message.
From the pollster's analysis: "Paul is winning the votes of conservatives by a 47-20 margin, while Grayson holds a 36-34 lead with moderates. Paul is having a particularly good amount of success with folks who think that the Republican Party in Washington has become too liberal -- his lead with them is 54-18." |
Rand Paul is setting new fundraising records.
He has raised over $1.7 million from small individual donors, so far.

Outstanding.
The Tea Baggers, if assumed to be a party, poll stronger than both D and R. A smart R party would move towards Schiff and Rand Paul. |

Given the caveat I've put in bold, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. |
