I had a relative mail a letter out of America on December 7 and I still have yet to get the letter. The same relative mailed out a priority letter on December 14 an I have yet to get that letter. I have had things mailed to the school before and I have always had the items reach the school. Does anyone know what the deal is with the post office? |

It usually takes 10-14 days from the US, for me. Im sure others will post that they receive letters within a day (whatever).
OP, Christmas is a busy time at the Post Office, plus many businesses and government offices mail out year-end letters/statements for various reasons. Allow for extra time. |

My Mom sent me 2 packages on the same day. One came 10 days after she mailed it, the other 2 weeks later!
I guess it just depends on what flight your mail is on and how much priority stuff gets on before it! |

I have never had a regular letter mailed to me that is why I am wondering why it is taking so long. I am still waiting, but I guess since it is not a package and it is made out to me the only thing the group of mr. sticky fingers can do is trash it to be mean. The reason I am talking in riddles is, that I do not want to come out and say it fully on this site. |

The other thing to look at is where it's being sent FROM. Part's of the US have been hit with severe blizzards, disrupting services across the board. I've sent stuff via FedEx before from Nebraska and it went to Tennessee, then Alaska, then Japan, then Korea. I don't know the USPS route, but unless you live in one of the major sorting areas, it's got a couple stops to make and the weather could be delaying it.
Also, if you send yourself hash, it will be confiscated. Just sayin' is all. |

Just curious: Is it being mailed to your apartment or to your school? You'll have a better chance of it getting to you if it goes to your school (well, as long as whoever sorts the mail remembers to give it to you!), since your school has probably gotten letters addressed in English before.
If you're in a large city, it will probably get to you since the postal workers there are pretty good at reading English.
If you're in a small town, it will probably get to you since everyone knows who you are, where you live, where you work, what time you go home, where you shop and what you eat.
If you're in a medium sized town.....good luck! |

I was just informed by the lady who gets the mail and that works in the business office ,that a basic letter from America goes by ship and it takes about one month I guess it is like the show M.AS.H. in which things come real late. |

She's probably an idiot. Again, where is it coming from? I've had stuff sent from the US before and it gets here in 7-10 days. It comes by airplane, it gets tossed on a commercial flight daily. So the origin to the local station is a day, to the hub is 2 days, to the airport hub for asia is 3 days, then overseas is 4-5 days depending on the actual time of the flight, then getting sent to the processing facility here and going through customs (to get your delicious hash brownies) it takes 7-10 days.
Even in M*A*S*H, they took a planes on the Tokyo-Honolulu-San Fransisco route. Don't you remember when they had Adam's Ribs from Chicago sent over?

They forgot the coleslaw
The letter was sent out of Florida on December 7 and the priority was sent out on December 12. Thanks for the M.A.S.H feedback. |

Well, my Mom sends me things now and then, and she was told by the post office that the USPS no longer ships by ship. Planes only.
You may want to check with the sender to see if it was returned to him/her. |
