help!
i'm renewing my contract with a public school board, and i'll be at the same school next year. given that, what do i need to take to the immigration office, and how long does it take?

i have to get my passport renewed as well so i'm worried that i won't be able to finish everything before i leave for my vacation in february.

(i know this question has been posted before, but policies change quickly in korea.)

thanks

First, go onto the Seoul immigration website. You will need to file an extension showing your new contract. Its fairly simple. I did change jobs and it was easy. Its easier if you just call them because then they will just tell you. They speak English and their number is on the website.

Second, to get your passport renewed, go onto your country's embassy and find out how to do it. I know for the US you fill out some paperwork and take it down to the embassy, not sure how long it takes.

i've already spent some time on the korean immigration service website (http://seoul.immigration.go.kr/HP/IMM80/index.do, that's what you meant by "seoul immigration website", right?), but i didn't see anything on there about visa renewals. i found some things that seemed to be the same thing to me, but the website told me i couldn't complete them online.
can someone give me a direct link or name of form i need to complete?

also, it's the visa renewal that i'm trying to complete. i have everything i need for my passport renewal application already.

What you need to take with you to the immigration office:

1. Passport
2. Alien card
3. 2 signed copies of contract (one original and one copy).
4. 1 sponsorship letter from employer (신원보증서).
5. A copy of schools business registration form (고유번호증).
6. 30,000 won fee.
7. Application Form (available at the immigration office).

Exactly - and sooo easy to do (however the fee will be more if you wish for a multiple entry visa).

You're in the waiting line longer than it takes for the actual changes to be made to your visa and ARC card. Both times I've done it, it took around 20 mins.

okay, i didn't know about the sponsorship letter from the school. good thing i asked before going.

that processing time is really quick.
i'm living in chungnam (충남), and i called the 1345 immigration number to ask about processing times, and they said at the office near me (cheonan, 천안) it would take about a week to complete. i'd greatly prefer to travel to seoul or somewhere else for the sake of having it processed more quickly.
does anyone have experience with going out of province to have this completed? is it possible, or will they tell me to have it done in my own province?

It has to be done at the Immigration office that has jurisdiction over your district....that's probably Cheonan

thanks for the help everyone. i just got my new contract from the provincial office and rushed over to the immigration office. embassy tomorrow.

for others in chungnam, here's what i needed:
- passport (여권)
- alien registration card (외국인등록증)
- sponsorship letter from school (신원보증서)
- school's business registration
- contract
i provided originals of everything and no extra copies. only the passport and arc were returned. it took about 5 minutes, and most of that time was me filling out a general purpose application form that i forgot about (available at the office) while the official watched.
i went to the office in cheonan. the official told me that visa renewal should be done at the daejeon office instead, but he was nice (or bored) enough to do it for me there.

i'll give the full addresses of both offices, since the information was hard for me to find:

cheonan: (near the ktx station, and 천안교육청)
대저출입국관리사무소 (daejeon immigration office)
충남북부상공회의소 (chungnam chamber of commerce and industry)

불당동
천안
