I was just wondering what's the latest with Lasik surgery? I remember reading some pro's and con's about it a few years ago and the general impression I got was that some people had issues with it after it was done....e.g. sometimes night vision wasn't so good or they had problems with their sight in certain situations.

Still, it's an appealing idea.....if it works.

Does anybody know anything about it nowadays?

Regards,
Art

Hi!

From what I have heard there are still some problems with Night vision and LASIK. However not many doctors recommend LASIK. LASEK should have less night vision problems but there might still be a chance of problem in the case when the color of the eyes are very dark, like the Korean eyes. The problem with any operation is however infections, so you have to be extra careful after the operation...

I did LASEK 3 weeks ago and I see now perfect. Smile

Sorry I had lasek, not lasik. The place I went to recommends against lasik, esp for men (as women don't do physical activities Laughing )

I had LASIK, was recovered within a few hours and had no complications and my vision is better than 20/20. My eyes are a bit dry at times, however they were much more dry and irritated from contacts. I had it about a year ago in Korea and it was one of the best things I ever did.

My father had it a few years ago in the US. He did have complications and it took about 6 months for his vision to fully stabilize. However, he was older than he did it and had some unique vision problems and was told he may very well have these complications before he went into it. He is still glad he did it even though his recovery process was a bit longer.

If you are interested, many places will do preliminary testing for free. They test cornea thickness and a few other things to make sure you are a candidate.
