Which leads me to wonder...there is this sterotype about Western men dating Asian women. And from reading some of the postings here on Dave's, it sounds like alot of men are in relationships with Korean women. Is it just as common to see Korean men dating foreign women? It doesn't sound like it...I wonder why...

Do a search - this topic has been done to death. It is quite rare to see a foreign woman with a korean man but, on occasion, i do see it.

I had a girlfriend a few years back who spent a year studying art in Florence Italy. Over there the situation was completely reversed. It seemed like every girl in the program was with an Italian guy while the guys pretty much stayed single or occasionally dated foreign girls if the opportunity presented itself. When asked why, the girls told me availability and being able to just have some no-strings-attached fun with attractive men who were full on into them. I think many western guys here have a similar attitude....The cool part was that all the N.American guys I met had a pretty level headed attitude about the whole thing and supported the girls (maybe because they were the sensitive artistic types, i dunno).

Even though I take every opportunity to meet, chat and show support for foreign girls whenever the opportunity presents itself, I lose complete interest when they start bitching about korean girls and the weird foreign guys that date them. Its an ugly insecurity thing that no guy needs to be lectured about.

That being said, most foreign girls I chat with are damn cool and refreshing to talk to. I always try to show support understanding that life here definately isn't easy. Just remember, not all guys are here just to snag some korean girl -- many would love nothing more than to hang out with a decent western chick.

Speaking of which, a few weeks ago, I met this very cool teacher who was teaching university level writing at Kangnam. Just happenstance, I asked her if a seat nearby was taken at COEX Starbucks.

Got talking and wasted away a good hour and a bit. Definitely refreshing to converse in English for a while. :)

Probably one of the highlights of my trip. I have an infinite respect for the teachers who are in Korea. I really don't think I'd last the distance to be honest.

jae.
