Hello everyone,

I have a job interview tomorrow for a good university position in Korea. I grew out a goatee this week and wonder if it will be viewed unfavorably by my potenial employers.

Unfortunately, I look about 10 years younger than I really am. So at 27, looking 17 might be a problem when interviewing for this position. Whereas the goatee makes me look much older.

So what's better...looking too young or rocking the facial hair?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This has been a controversial subject. What type of jam to put on toast is controversial on Dave's. My 2c is to shave, or at least to make sure the goatee is very trim and neat. Facial hair is uncommon here, although I see older foreigners get away with beards if they are kept orderly and not ZZ Top-ish. If you wish to present maturity, dress very well rather than risking looking like one of the Spin Doctors.

i get by with a beard just fine and I'm 25.

if you've only had it for a short time I'd get rid of it to be on the safe side, then start growing it back after the interview. I say this because I've had mine for a very long time - I look completely different without it, so for the sake of comfort and confidence I keep mine for interviews.

if you don't want to do that, shave off as much as you can bear to and make sure everything else about your appearance is very smart.

I would say keep it. Not just because you look younger, but because older foreign males often grow beards. It may increase your prestige as long as it looks ok.

Goatees are ftl. I can't believe people still sport them. You're in Korea, not Alabama.
