hey everyone
i bought myself a digital camera in seoul at yongsan market. i was stoked, i got it for about 200 dollars less than what dell is selling it for in canada.
anyways, i get it home to andong and i realized 'made for the japanese market' on the box means western-style plugs.
i had switched to the gillette mach 3 and didn't think it was worth it to buy a voltage switcher just for shaving. now i actually need one. how much should they cost? are they easy to find in smaller cities? what stores sell them?
and, the charger on my camera has what my electrician friend called "free voltage"... it says 'input: 110V-240V'... so if i can just get a simple plug adapter will it work? i don't want to fry my charger... |

| They're easy enough to find. Go into a shop that sells electrical stuff and ask for a "trans". They'll hand you a smallish, but surprisingly heavy box, and ask for around 15,000W |

If the charger can handle input voltages from 110-240v, all you need is a 500 won plug adapter to convert the Japanese/US style plug into a Korean one.
Just double-check what it says on the charger yourself, otherwise you'll burn it out if it's only 110-120v. |

thanks for the replies guys, i actually went to a camera store here in andong. i mumbled in broken korean and slow ESL english and then got my korean friend to talk to the guy on my phone.
he led me across the street to an electrical shop, and the guy there sold me a voltage converter for 8000 won. i can shave properly now, and while my charger will indeed work, i feel more comfortable plugging it into a converter. that's probably stupid and paranoid, but that's me.
for those of you in andong wanting a voltage converter, find the little camera shop in Sin-E (spelling?) right in from that main intersection by the "anal clinic". ask the guy there. the electrical shop is on the main road running north and south i believe, about a 1/2 block down from the east-west road running towards peungwhadong and okdong.
those directions are probably useless, but if you ask enough people you'll find something i guess. |
