Quote:
A man was arrested Tuesday for having "faked" his death in a conspiracy with his wife in order to claim a 1.8 billion won insurance payout.

The two not only fabricated the death certificate but held a cremation rite as a funeral at a Buddhist temple.

According to the Nadaemun Police, the 51-year-old Chung reported the death of her 51-year-old husband Ahn in June to six insurance firms from which they had bought life insurance policies........

Not just life insurance firms but also auto insurance firms are facing a great number of scams, which some say are a result of the difficult economic situation.

In some cases, people have faked injuries after intentionally being running into cars in an effort to squeeze money from insurance firms.

Pretty typical stuff.
I remember reading a story a while back about all the people in hospitals who go for walks outside in their gowns.
They'll go have a few smokes, eat with friends, hang out in coffee shops, etc.
Of course most are accident 'victims' who are just spending a little time in the hospital so they can get some money.

That happens a lot, also getting into fights with foreigners deliberately to get "blood money".

Don't need to read about it, you can see them everyday sitting at shops outside most hospitals.

I always think it is so strange to see grown adults wearing their hospital pajamas outside on a footpath on a major (busy) street. Don't they have any shame?

2 of my adult students told me straight up in class that they faked injuries to get insurance money. They were proud of themselves for it too.

They each stayed 2 weeks in a hospital for a rear-ender.
