This really tickles me..

Quote:
Professor Becomes No. 1 Public Enemy for Public Servants

When she shows up, the whole employees at the Apgujeong subway station shudder. And it has been that way for the last six years.

It all started when a middle-aged professor, identified only as Kim, started to use subway to commute to her new job, a university in Gyeonggi Province, after returning from her Ph.D. study in the United States. To avoid the rush hour traffic jam, she chose to use the public transport system. But even then, it was an ordeal that took her one and a half hours to get to her work, including three transfers.

One day, she was detained by a subway employee for riding without purchasing a ticket. She was released only after paying a fine. She felt mistreated. She claimed that the machine, in fact, was broken. She lodged a complaint officially, including demanding to know the name of the government employee who had detained her at that time briefly.

"I am not good at talking. So, I decided to post my complaints on the web site of the transportation authorities," Chosun Ilbo reported Saturday citing her. "Frankly, at first, part of my motivation was revenge."

It has become her habit. Since then, she has filed 499 complaints against the state-owned Seoul Metro, pointing out various problems, including improper ventilation, trains arriving not on time.

When a complaint is made, the chief official of the subway station which the complaint was directed to, has to write a report to the regional head office, which then refers it to the headquarters. A reply, approved by the head office, has to be composed and has to be posted on the Seoul Metro web site. The complaint records are used to assess the job performance of the subway employees at the station.

Kim has become a pain in the neck for the local subway station officials. When she showed up at 6:30 a.m. every morning at the Apgujeong station near her home, they got nervous. She might complain that you're not standing in a proper position where you're supposed to be, or notice that you're using your mobile phone during work hours.

"The subway workers here have developed nervous breakdown because of her," said Kim Seong-mo, the chief official at the Apgujeong station. Last Autumn, he proposed a meeting with Kim to placate her. It was rejected.

These days, she composes two or three complaint letters every week.

"Every day, we deal with 100,000 people who use our station. We're very busy all the time even without her. But now, the first thing we do every morning is to check our computer to see whether there is any new complaint from her," he said.

Some officials at the Seoul Metro couldn't take it anymore; they decided to complain against her by visiting her school and complaining to her supervisor. They even managed to obtain her "pledge" of not posting a letter any more.

"I didn't do all the complaints," Kim said. "Some of my posts include positive compliments as well."

The Seoul Metro doesn't appreciate her compliments either. The authorities just hope that she stops writing, and leave them alone.

"I can't believe this. Are they telling me that I am making them tired, so regardless of whether my letters are positive or negative, should I quit doing it?" she said.

But she relented. She switched her letters' destination and now directs her complaints to another government web site at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, which manages railway transportation.

And all that because she was detained for riding without a ticket once. No wonder police don't enforce the traffic laws here Wink (non-sequitur, I know...it was a joke).

Haha that's great, my boss back home would have a ruckus, Southern-fried good-old-time telling these guys where to go and how to get there. I can't believe her principal didn't tell them to get lost.

Hey guys! Wanna stop the complaints? Shape up! Do your job right!

Such childish behavior. Rolling Eyes

She lost face getting busted for hopping the turnstyle, and this is how she compensates for her own embarrassment.

And now we begin to understand why Korean universities are not in the top 100 in the world... if their professors have the free time to be a public nuisance.

The best part is that she's taken someone's already pretty crappy job dealing with rushed commuters all day everyday, picking up garbage in the station, cleaning the bathroom or whatever, and made it even crappier. I hope she feels great about herself.
