Having loads of crashes with blackrain on my iphone.

Had to reset the entire thing 3-4 times by now and once even had to take it to KTF to get fixed.

Is there any other safer way to jailbreak the iphone 3GS 3.1.2?

Firstly, I am new to all this Mac stuff.
Blackra1n installs fine, but when I connect it to pc suite, it tells me the phone hasnt been jailbroken.
My problems occur when I install stuff from rock and cydia. The phone reboots and then has to be connected to itunes and reset. Once it was so bad I had to take it to KTF.

blackra1n is not the official jailbreak release. Therefore, you will deal with issues such as tethering and bugs (cydia crashing, wifi drops etc.) When the Official 3.1.2 jailbreak is released by the Dev Team, that is what you should use.

Correctamundo. Just wait a bit, and they'll come through.

I use blackra1n. On new iPhone, it creates a tethered jailbreak. That means when you hit the screen that tells you to connect via USB to iTunes, you should run blackra1n again. That will reboot your phone.

Is it me, or is the 3.1.2 jailbreak taking a long time?

hi victor. could u clarify? im contemplating on jailbreaking on my iphone.. but id like to be sure what the downsides are.

im not sure what u meant by "reboot" and "tethered jailbreak". what is the consequence of having to "reboot your phone"?

is there a chance of bricking my phone if i do hack it?

You can always restore your phone if it does get bricked.

Right now, the only drawback to jailbreaking your iPhone is the "tethering" issue. That mean, your phone has to be connected to your computer to boot. For example, if you decide to shut off your phone, you won't be able to turn it on until you connect it to the computer.

This isn't a problem for me because the only two times I've shut off my iPhone since I've bought it was due to loss of battery power. I had to connect it to my computer to charge anyway.

I was an iPod touch user for a long time before getting the iPhone and I didn't jailbreak it even though my co-worker told me I should. After jailbreaking my iPhone, I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

If you shut your phone off often (and not due to loss of battery power), you might have some issues with the jailbreak but for me, it's been great.

Have you tried:

Download blackra1n to your desktop
(save as)

Connect your iphone to the pc

Kill itunes if it comes up

run blackrain (make it rain)

wait for reboot

(again kill itunes if it opens)

after a while your phone should start

itunes will still say its in recovery mode so stay away from it

Use pc suite for iphone or another prog

Best I can do fa ya.

Good luck.

PS You need to download and install rock and cydia but not blacksnow
then uninstall blackrain

Then go into cydia ann click on featured packages

scroll down to to free extensions and install all four

there are also other things u need

search on the net for more help

I still use an iPhone 2G (of course in Korea, its just a glorified iPod Touch) so there are easier ways to update to 3.1.2 (cooked firmware). But I noticed that since I run 3.1.2, my battery drains even when I don't use the phone. I never switch it off completely, just leave it in suspende mode, and before the update I could put it away for a week and pick it up with hardly any battery power lost. Now it loses 20% battery within a day. What I can see is that the iPod player is still running in the background after I stop the music, this is different from the previous version. Still... anyone knows about this problem or is this now par for the course?
